*LIGHT 4 LIFE*
(A daily Devotion based on the Presbyterian Almanac)

DATE: *MONDAY, 25TH MAY 2026*
TOPIC: *THE GENEROSITY AND HOSPITALITY OF WISDOM*
READINGS: *PROV. 9: 1 - 18*

*“Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars. She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table. “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.”* (Prov. 9: 1, 2, 5 & 6)

In Proverbs 9, Wisdom builds her house, prepares a feast, and sends out her servants with a generous, open invitation: “Let all who are simple come in here!” Unlike folly, who offers stolen bread in secret, Wisdom’s hospitality is honorable, public, and life-giving. She does not hoard understanding but sets her table for the hungry—especially those who know they lack direction.

This shows that true wisdom is not prideful or exclusive; it actively seeks to nourish, correct, and welcome the humble. The only cost is leaving behind mockery and pride. So come to her feast today: God’s wisdom is not a harsh judge but a gracious host. Receive her correction as kindness, and you will walk in light.

*Prayer Points:*
Lord, give me a humble heart that gladly leaves folly behind to feast at Wisdom’s table.
Make me a generous host of Your truth, welcoming, patient, and life-giving to those who are seeking the way.

*“BUILDING ON THE FOUNDATION ALREADY LAID THROUGH DISCIPLESHIP”*

BIBLE READINGS:

2ND: 1 TIM. 2: 2
3RD: COL. 2: 6 – 7; 1 COR. 3: 11

INTRODUCTION
Brothers and sisters, today is Pentecost Sunday—the day we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. It is also Evangelism Sunday in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. What a divine combination! The same Spirit that filled the disciples on the day of Pentecost is the Spirit that empowers us to go and make disciples of all nations.

However, note that evangelism without discipleship is like birth without growth. It is not enough to bring people to Christ; we must build them up on the foundation already laid. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 3:11, “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Jesus Christ is the foundation. The question is: what are we building on that foundation? And how are we building others? Today, the Lord is calling us to move from mere conversion to intentional discipleship. To build on the foundation already laid.
LET US PRAY!

#1. The Great Commission is a Discipleship Mandate
In the first reading (Matt. 28:19–20), Jesus gives what we call the Great Commission. He says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
Please observe: He did not say, “Go and make converts only.” He said, “Make disciples.” A convert is someone who says yes to Jesus once. A disciple is someone who learns from Jesus, obeys Jesus, and becomes like Jesus every day. Discipleship is the process of building a person on the foundation of Christ so that they can stand firm, grow, and also build others.

On this Evangelism Sunday, let us not celebrate how many hands were raised at the expense of how many lives were built. Evangelism wins souls; discipleship secures them. Both are the work of the Spirit.

#2. Discipleship is not a programme; it is a process
In the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20), Jesus did not say, “Go and get decisions.” But rather, “Go and make disciples.”
There is a difference between a convert and a disciple. A convert makes a decision. A disciple makes a surrender.

Many churches in Ghana are full of converts but empty of disciples. We have people who raised their hands, said a prayer, got baptized, but still love the world, live in secret sin, and have no appetite for God’s Word.

Discipleship is the slow, deliberate, Spirit-led process of helping a person become like Christ in character, conduct, and conviction. It is not a one-week crusade or a quarterly seminar. It is life-on-life investment. That is why Paul told Timothy in the second reading: “What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim. 2:2).
Notice the four generations: Paul → Timothy → faithful men → others. That is building on the foundation.

Who is discipling you? And who are you discipling? If you cannot answer both questions, you are not building – you are just attending church.

#3. The Holy Spirit alone makes disciples
Since this is Pentecost Sunday, remember that the Holy Spirit is the Master Builder and the Ultimate Disciple Maker. In the gospel of John Jesus said, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26) And again He said, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (John 16:13)

This means we cannot build any Christ-like life without the Holy Spirit. We need the Holy Spirit to become disciples of Jesus Christ. But the Holy Spirit does not force his way into any life, nor does He possess people to use them without their consent. The Holy Spirit only fills and works through yielded lives. As we submit and yield our lives to the Holy Spirit, He will guide us into all truth, and Jesus Christ is the truth (John 14: 6). The holy spirit will make the Word come alive through us in holy living.

Like the disciples, wait and pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to build on the foundation of Christ as His disciple.

As the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit they began to preach boldly. Christianity without the Spirit is a dry religion. But with the Spirit, even a quiet conversation can change a life forever.

Conclusion & Call to Action
Beloved, the foundation has been laid, but the building is incomplete. God is looking for disciple-makers who will build on the solid foundation of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today, as we celebrate Pentecost and Evangelism Sunday, I am asking you to do three things before next Sunday:
Receive a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit – surrender every area of your life you have been controlling.
Identify one person to disciple – start this week, even if just 15 minutes.
Become accountable – share your disciple-making goal with a brother or sister and report progress.

The early church did not grow by advertising; it grew by disciple-making. May the same Spirit that fell at Pentecost fall on us today, so that we will not be a crowd, but a community of builders.

*LIGHT 4 LIFE*
(A daily Devotion based on the Presbyterian Almanac)

DATE: *SATURDAY, 23RD MAY 2026*
TOPIC: *THE FOUNDATION OF WISDOM*
READINGS: *PROV. 8: 22 - 36*

*“Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth, before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD ”* (Prov. 8: 25, 26, 34 & 35)

Before time began, Wisdom was already with God, not created but the very blueprint of all creation (Prov. 8:22–31). This divine Wisdom is no mere advice; it is the unshakable foundation upon which the universe itself stands. When you build your life on Christ, who is God’s Wisdom (1 Cor. 1:24), you are anchored in something older than the mountains and deeper than the seas.

Those who find this Wisdom find life and obtain favor from the Lord (8:35), while missing it is self-destruction (8:36). So listen daily, watch at His gates, and you will walk in unshakable peace. Choose Wisdom today; your entire future depends on it.

Prayer points:
1. Lord, root my heart deeply in the fear of You, the true beginning of all wisdom.
2. Father, give me grace to seek and obey Your Wisdom daily, that I may walk in lasting favor and life.

*LIGHT 4 LIFE*
(A daily Devotion based on the Presbyterian Almanac)

DATE: *FRIDAY, 22ND MAY 2026*
TOPIC: *WISDOM CALLS*
READINGS: *PROV. 8: 1 - 12*

*“Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; “To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man. O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense. ”* (Prov. 8: 1, 2 4 & 5)

In Proverbs 8, Wisdom doesn’t hide in shadows, she stands at the city gates, on busy streets, at every doorway of our lives, crying out to all who will listen. She offers not secrets for the elite, but clear, truthful, and righteous words for anyone willing to hear. Verse 12 reminds us that wisdom dwells with prudence, knowledge, and discretion; practical gifts for everyday living are available to all who will heed wisdom’s call.

So today, above the noise of fear, haste, and doubt, Wisdom is calling you. Not to shame you, but to guide you into a life that works. Stop. Listen. Her voice is good news. Will you answer?

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, give me ears to recognize Your voice of wisdom above all competing noises today.
2. Holy Spirit, replace my foolish haste with the prudence and discretion that come from Your presence.

*LIGHT 4 LIFE*
(A daily Devotion based on the Presbyterian Almanac)

DATE: *THURSDAY, 21ST MAY 2026*
TOPIC: *FOR LACK OF WISDOM PEOPLE PERISH*
READINGS: *PROV. 6: 20 - 35*

*“Say to wisdom, ‘You are my sister,’ and call insight your intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words. With much seductive speech, she persuades him; with her smooth talk, she compels him. All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast ”* (Prov. 7: 4, 5, 21 & 22)

Proverbs 7 paints a haunting picture of a young man “lacking judgment” (v. 7), who wanders into the trap of an adulteress and walks like an ox to the slaughter. He perishes not because God wanted him to fall, but because he had no wisdom to recognize the deadly path.

Wisdom is not merely knowledge; it is a lifeline. Without it, we are easily seduced by what glitters but kills. Don’t let a moment’s pleasure cost you your purpose. Cry out for discernment today, for the simple perish, but the wise find life.

*Prayer points:*
1. Lord, give me a heart of wisdom to see the hidden snares around me.
2. Father, deliver me from every pleasing but deadly trap that would steal my destiny.
