Today's Message πŸ“–

Pentecost Sunday πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ•ŠοΈπŸ•ŠοΈ
1st Reading: Acts 2:1-11
2nd Reading: 1Cor 12:3B-7, 12-13
Gospel: John 20:19-23

Unity, a sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit

In the 1st Reading, the disciples were together in one place when the Holy Spirit came upon them (Acts 2:1-4).

The Holy Spirit can dwell among us when we are one (united) as church members and as a family.

NB: Where there is confusion, hatred, separation, envy, jealousy etc the Holy Spirit does not dwell there.
βž– He lives where there is peace and unity.

Gifts for the wellbeing of the Church

In the 2nd Reading, the Holy Spirit gives people different gifts to serve the Church.
βž– The gifts of the Holy Spirit are meant to keep the Church growing.

Our Hope: I pray that you discover the gifts of the Spirit in you; and may the Holy Spirit unite us as one people of God.
βž– May the peace of Christ be with you as you receive the Holy Spirit in your life today. Amen.

PRAYER

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Renew us and heal our world from Covid-19. Amen.

Today's Message πŸ“–

1st Reading: Acts 20:28-38

Gospel: John 17:11B-19

Called to guard others

In the 1st Reading, Paul advised the elders of Ephesus to guard the flock put under their care (Acts 20:28)

We are called to be good shepherds over those put under our care.
βž– Parents, teachers, pastors, elders and leaders in the society have a duty to take good care of those put in their care.

Que: How do we take good care of those put under our charge?

1: Training them in the Word of God.
2: Praying for and together with them.
3: Giving advice and correcting them when they are wrong.
4: Giving good examples for them to follow.

Remember: We have a duty to take good care of others - God is counting on us.

God is our ultimate protector

In the Gospel, Jesus prays that God will protect us from the evil one (Jn 17:11-15)

Our ultimate protection comes from God - He is the source of our strength.

Our Hope: I pray that God will protect you and your family today; and may the coming of the Holy Spirit be the source of your strength. Amen.

PRAYER

Protect us, Oh Lord, from all evil and make us good shepherds of those You have entrusted to us. Heal us and our world from Covid-19. Amen.

Today's Message πŸ“–

1st Reading: Acts 20:17-27

Gospel: John 17:1-11A

A fulfilled life is what matters

In the 1st Reading, Paul considered life to be important only if he could bring the work of God to a successful end (Acts 20:24)

βž– Jesus in the Gospel also glorified His Father by accomplishing the work He gave Him to do (Jn 17:4)

God has called and given each of us a work to do here on earth.
βž– God might have called you to be a good parent to your children; a good teacher to your students; a good pastor (shepherd) of your church; a good leader in the society etc.

NB: What is important is that you bring the work God has entrusted into your hands to a successful end - to give Him glory.

There would be difficulties and obstacles in preventing us from doing what God wants us to do.
βž– But let us stay focused and ask God to strengthen us.

Our Hope: I pray that you will be able to bring the work God has entrusted to you to a successful end; and may the coming of the Holy Spirit strengthen us to be focused in life. Amen.

PRAYER

Bring to a successful end, Oh Lord, the work you have entrusted to us. May our lives glorify you today and save us and our world from Covid-19. Amen.

Today's Message πŸ“–

1st Reading: Acts 18:9-18

Gospel: John 16:20-23

Keep doing the right thing; never stop

In the 1st Reading, the Lord said to Paul β€œDo not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent" (Acts 18:9)

Sometimes, we are distracted and tempted to stop the good things we are doing.
βž– This may be by criticisms, hatred, rejection, attacks etc from friends, family members, co-workers etc.

NB: Jesus encourages you today to keep on doing the right thing.
βž– Do not be afraid - Jesus is with you every moment.

Your sorrow will turn into joy

In the Gospel Jesus told the disciples before His ascension that they would go through suffering and sorrow.
βž– But He will come again and their sorrow will turn into joy (Jn 16:20-22)

NB: Let us not despair when we suffer for the good things we do.

Remember: Jesus will turn our sorrow into joy.
βž– And no one can take our joy away from us.

PRAYER

Fill us with your heavenly joy, Oh Lord, and let us not despair in doing good. Heal us and our world from Covid-19. Amen.

Today's Message πŸ“–

1st Reading: Acts 17:15, 22-18:1

Gospel: John 16:12-15

We serve a God we know

In the 1st Reading, the people of Athens worshipped an unknown God
βž– Paul then preached to them about the true God who has revealed Himself to man in His Son Jesus.

Our God has revealed Himself to be loving, caring, merciful, compassionate, powerful, all knowing etc.

NB: For us Christians, we worship a God who has a personal relationship with us.
βž– The more we know about God, the more we will love Him.

Remember: Our God is near. Let us seek to know more about Him because He has made Himself available to us.

The Holy Spirit helps us to know more of God

In the Gospel, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will guide us to all truth and reveal to us the things about God.

Our Hope: As we seek to know more of God and love Him, may the Holy Spirit help us to understand the mysteries of God
βž– May He help us to worship God in truth and in spirit. Amen.

PRAYER

May we seek to know You, Oh Lord, and let us worship You in truth and in spirit. Bless the work of our hands and heal our world from Covid-19. Amen.

Today's Message πŸ“–

1st Reading: Acts 16:22-34

Gospel: John 16:5-11

The Holy Spirit wins our hearts for Jesus

In the Gospel, Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit will convict the world in regard to sin, righteousness and condemnation (Jn 16:8)

What Jesus means is that the Holy Spirit will

1: speak and touch our hearts to accept our sins and weaknesses
2: make us righteous and acceptable before God
3: lead us to salvation in Jesus.

NB: The coming of the Holy Spirit is to lead us to attain salvation in Jesus.
βž– Let us prepare our hearts to receive the Spirit of God in our lives.

Prayer saves us

In the 1st Reading, Paul and Silas were saved from prison by praying and singing hymns to God.

Prayer is very important in the life of a Christian.
βž– Through prayer, we allow God to save us from all forms of evil.

Our Hope: I pray that the coming of the Holy Spirit will increase our desire to pray; and may God hear and answer us when we call on Him in prayer. Amen.

PRAYER

Hear and answer our prayers, Oh Lord, and let your Holy Spirit lead us in all righteousness. Save us and our world from Covid-19. Amen.

Today's Message πŸ“–

1st Reading: Acts 16:11-15

Gospel: John 15:26-16:4A

The Holy Spirit keeps us in the right path

In the Gospel Jesus speaks to us of the Holy Spirit so that we may not fall away (Jn 16:1)

With our own efforts and strength we are bound to fail without the help of God.
βž– Jesus, therefore, sends us the Holy Spirit to guide us as Christians.

NB: It is important, therefore, to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives, family, marriage, work, education etc in order to succeed.

Be kind and generous to others

In the 1st Reading, Lydia offered her house for Paul and his companions to stay in when she received the word of God.

God has been gracious to us first by making us His children.
βž– We are in return to be gracious and generous to others.

Our Hope: We pray that the Holy Spirit will transform our hearts so that we can be gracious and generous to others for what God has done for us in our lives. Amen.

PRAYER

Let your Holy Spirit, Oh Lord, lead us in the right path and renew our hearts to be generous to others. Heal us and our world from Covid-19. Amen.
