PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK

BRIDGET ANYEMEDU

In this week’s edition of *Personality of the Week*, we had the pleasure of interacting with the calm, thoughtful, and inspiring *Bridget Anyemedu*. With a gentle smile and a heart full of compassion, Bridget shared her journey in healthcare, her passion for humanity, and the values that continue to guide her life.

Bridget had her secondary education at *T.I. Amass, Kumasi*, after which she pursued a *Diploma in Nursing* at *Agogo Nurses Training College*. Her desire for growth and excellence pushed her further to obtain a *Bachelor of Science in Nursing* from *Garden City University*. She has also earned a *Certificate in Burns Management*, adding to her professional expertise in healthcare delivery.

Speaking about why she chose the nursing profession, Bridget explained that from childhood, she always wanted to do something humanitarian. To her, nursing is more than a profession; it is an opportunity to serve as a patient advocate, counsellor, mediator, and protector. She expressed that one of the greatest joys in her work is seeing patients recover from trauma and illness. According to her, assisting people in their quest for healthcare brings her genuine fulfilment and happiness.

Bridget also shared how working in the health sector has shaped her perspective on life. The experiences and challenges she encounters daily have taught her to deeply appreciate the precious gift of life that God has given mankind. Through it all, she remains grounded in faith, revealing that her greatest motivation comes from God Almighty. She believes that with God’s help, every goal is achievable, and this conviction keeps her moving forward regardless of life’s difficulties.

Describing herself in three simple but powerful words, Bridget said she is *firm, assertive, and resourceful*. Outside her professional life, she enjoys listening to good music, reading books, swimming, travelling, adventure, sports, especially football, and plays cards occasionally to relax.

When asked about her favourite meal, she quickly mentioned "Banku and Okra Stew," and her favourite colour is *Royal Blue*. Her favourite quote is taken from Book of Isaiah 60:1 — *“Arise and shine.”* She explained that her personal motto is to shine wherever she finds herself.

One interesting thing many people may not know about Bridget is her ability to remain calm and organized even during stressful situations — a quality that undoubtedly helps her greatly in the demanding healthcare environment.

In her advice to young people, Bridget encouraged them to remain focused, patient, and prayerful. She noted that many young people today want quick results in life, but life itself is a gradual process. She advised them to trust in God, believe in themselves, and continue working steadily toward their goals because, in time, they will surely succeed.

To her colleagues in the healthcare profession, Bridget passionately encouraged empathy, patience, respect, and hard work. She believes healthcare should be seen as a ministry and not merely a job, urging fellow healthcare workers to continue treating patients with compassion and understanding despite societal criticisms.

On leadership, Bridget humbly advised church leaders and those in authority to be more empathetic and less judgmental toward members. According to her, leaders should draw closer to people, support them in prayer, and create an atmosphere of love and understanding.

When asked how she would want to be remembered, Bridget’s response was heartfelt and sincere. She wishes to be remembered as someone who touched lives positively through healthcare and service, someone who genuinely cared for others and made meaningful contributions to humanity.

Bridget also mentioned, with simplicity and humour, that she is currently single.

Indeed, interacting with Bridget Anyemedu was refreshing and inspiring. Her calm spirit, compassionate heart, and dedication to service remind us that true greatness is found in impacting lives positively and shining wherever God places us.
