When we pray, we pray on the same basis and with the same rights as Paul, John, James and Peter. We rank equal with the greatest saints. The promises to them are the promises to us. They prayed the same Lord’s prayer as we pray. We have the same privileges as they had. God has no favorites except we are ALL His favorites. They had the same key to the door as we have – the name of Jesus. We come to the front door and walk in, without knocking, without a receptionist to announce us. We do not need angels or saints to usher us into God’s presence. We are sons and heirs – we have complete freedom of access into our Father’s house. That is a very good reason indeed for praying. We pray because it was made possible at great cost to one person, Jesus Christ. We have been “brought near by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13). What a price so that we can pray! “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). That is the whole idea. “Therefore … having boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh … let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Hebrews 10:19-22).
