Episcopal Worship Centre (EWC) is one of the African Methodist Episcopal Churches in Ghana. It is situated in Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana; West Africa. It is in a densely populated catchment area with a high children population density. The church started in 1982 in a small wooden structure with a membership of ten. It has however since in year 2000 built its own premises and the memb
ership has grown to over 500; exclusive of the children under ten years who number about three hundred (300). Episcopal Worship Centre is currently in its own premises and the church auditorium can seat about 800 persons. Episcopal Worship Centre currently organizes two Sunday services. These are the English Service from 6:30am to 9:20am and the local language (Twi) Service from 9:30am to 12:30pm. There is however a Joint Service for the communion service on every first Sunday of the month. Episcopal Worship Centre is a Bible based and Christ centered church and therefore evangelistic and charismatic in nature. A typical worship service comprises; call to Worship, Praises and Worship, Bible Studies, Scripture reading, Sermon, Alter call, Intercessory Prayer, Petition, Testimonies, Thanksgiving, Offertory, Tithes and Benediction. The Lord’s supper/Communion services are organized on the first Sunday of each month. Alongside these regular worship services, week-long evangelistic crusades, week-long revival sessions and prayer meetings are also often organized by the church. The church has always organized a forty (40) days fasting and prayer session during the lent sessions. The church has its own Information Center from where Christian programs and important announcements are made to the public. The church is also blessed with its own set of musical systems and public address system for worship services. It has also its own set of brass instrument used occasionally to enrich the worship services and outreach work. The church has separate musical instruments and public address system for mainly outreach work. Incidentally this is the system that is regularly used at the dumpsite for the All Believers Morning Devotion and other evangelistic crusades. The church also has a choir and two vibrant musical groups namely the Asaph Minstrals and the Episcopal Praise Choir. It also has a choreography group and a children’s department of over three hundred children. An evangelistic musical program is organized yearly which features the above mentioned musical groups and other invited musical groups. This normally takes place in the latter part of December of each year and is always well attended. The Valentine Day has been adapted by Episcopal Worship Centre as “Valentine Evangelistic Praise” where evangelism is done through music. The objective here is to win the youth for Christ. Through this many youth have been saved. We praise and thank God for that. Other yearly program organized includes the Young Pulpit, Bible Quiz, Colloquium and Symposium. Training, seminars and workshops are also a regular feature of the Episcopal Worship Centre to help develop the capacity of members. Another important feature on the Episcopal Worship Centre’s calendar of activities is the December 31st Night Prayer Vigil which also draws capacity crowds in the church auditorium and gallery. Also visitation to the orphanages for both ministration and demonstration of act of love and care also become a regular feature on our calendar of activities. The widow and widowers in the church are also catered for during the Christmas season. The church is also aware of its social responsibility and thus often makes donations to the affected public when the need arises. To inculcate the habit of saving, the church has developed a micro-finance unit known as the Episcopal Youth Savings Club. This is to help members save to help in the education of their wards; thus for provident and productive purpose. The mission statement of the Episcopal Worship Centre (A.M.E. Church) is to evangelize, train and equip for responsible church membership. We seek to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, financial and the environmental needs of all people by spreading Christian liberation gospel through words and deeds; utilizing the five-fold ministries. Our vision is to be a Bible Based Christ Centered Church seeking and rescuing souls for the Kingdom of God; nurturing and discipline them to have a living relationship with God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit and to be an evangelistic church with membership being spiritually, physically and financially sound. Episcopal Worship Centre is interested in collaborating with churches for the advancement of the work of God in Ghana.
