*THE LEADING OF THE SPIRIT*

*Scripture Reading:* Acts 13:1-5

_As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” *Acts 13:2*_

The Holy Spirit speaks to us and leads us daily. We must learn to follow His directions. He lives with us each moment of our lives. He knows the past, the present and the future. He knows what will happen before it happens. What He does is prompt us in our hearts concerning what He wants us to know or do.

The Holy Spirit does not shout into our ears. He does not push us around. He usually speaks to us in a still small voice. Many times, before anything will happen to us, He prompts us ahead of time so that we can either avoid it or prepare for it.

To discern and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, we must know and own these spiritual truths.

*• The Spirit of God dwells within us.* When we give our hearts to the Lord and ask Him to come and live in us, He does. The Lord lives in us through the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised us exactly that. He told us that after His ascension, He would send the Holy Spirit to come and continue His work in us.

*• The Spirit of God speaks within us.* Because the Holy Spirit lives in us, He speaks from within us. He can speak to us through dreams, visions or the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But the primary way by which the Holy Spirit leads us is through our spirits. He quickens our spirit to hear His voice. We can call that, the inward witness of the Spirit.

*• The Spirit of God leads within us.* Sometimes without speaking to us, the Holy Spirit simply holds our hand, so to speak, and walks with us. He nudges us to do things without a voice. We simply know what to do. That kind of spiritual leading can come through a sense of restlessness you feel about a situation that makes you pause. It can also come through a sense of peace you have about a situation that gives you the confidence to act.

The challenge of the believer is how to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading when we are surrounded by so many voices and directions. As we wait on the Lord, expect the indwelling Holy Spirit to speak to you and lead you in the way you should go.

_*Prayer:* Heavenly Father, lead me by you Spirit who lives within me. I receive your guidance today. In Jesus’ name, Amen._

*RECEIVING THE WORD OF THE LORD*

*Scripture Reading:* 1 Kings 30:1-10

_“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” *1 Kings 17:9-10*_

God speaks to His children. He speaks to us through His word, the Bible. He also speaks to us through the Holy Spirit.

Elijah, the prophet, knew how to receive the word of the Lord. At various times in his life, God gave him words for himself and words for the nation of Israel. In a time of famine, the Lord told him to go to a brook. There, at the brook, the Lord used a raven to feed him. The ravens brought him bread and meat twice a day, morning and evening. And he drank fresh water from the flowing brook.

In spite of Elijah being all alone and hunted down by the king, God protected and fed him. Elijah obeyed God’s leading and found provision and protection.

However, God’s provision and protection was not only supplied in the wilderness but also in the city through the help of a widow. Eventually the brook dried up, and the Lord instructed Elijah to go and stay in the city of Zarephath near Sidon. There he would meet a widow whom the Lord had already instructed to supply food for him.

Elijah obeyed the Lord and made the trip. When he entered the city gate, he saw a widow gathering sticks. This widow was at the point of death, yet God used her to protect and provide for Elijah.

Elijah was a prophet who was used to giving God’s word to others but he had to also learn to receive God’s word to him. Many times, we can get so preoccupied with giving God’s word to others that we fail to hear what the Spirit of God is saying to us.

As we wait on the Lord, we should pay attention to the instructions that the Lord is giving us individually. Like Elijah the Lord has planned for our protection and provision. If we listen to Him, we will discover what He has made ready for us.

_*Prayer:* Heavenly Father, give me a heart that is receptive to your leading. Show me what to do each step of the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen._

I am not shielding my children from accepting others. I am shielding my children from accepting this world’s standards of truth. I am shielding them from being indoctrinated by the world.

I am raising my children to love everyone, while also raising them to love their God enough to stand for Him.

My children will understand the symbolism of a rainbow as God’s Word defines it, not as our world falsely represents it. I am raising my children to see the beauty of Our Savior’s covenant.

I am raising my kids to know that their identity is defined by God, NOT BY THIS WORLD.

*Acts 25:23 Paul was in prison, but that didn't stop him from making the most of his situation. Military officers and prominent city leaders met in the auditorium with Agrippa to hear this case. Paul saw this new audience as yet another opportunity to present the Good News. Rather than complain about your present situation, look for ways to use every opportunity to serve God and share Him with others. Your problems may be opportunities in disguise.*

*INQUIRING OF THE LORD*

*Scripture Reading:* 1 Samuel 30:1-8

_Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” *1 Samuel 30:7-8*_

When we inquire of the Lord, it means we address our questions to the Lord, seek answers from Him, and pray for His help.

David inquired of Lord at a very low point in his life. He was distressed by an invasion of the Amalekites that had ransacked his village and kidnapped his family and that of his soldiers. Everything was gone and, in addition, David’s soldiers were blaming him for their loss. What do you do in such a situation? David decided to seek God’s mind about his next line of action.

When we are faced with important choices we must go to the Lord for direction.

*• David had a personal relationship with God.* He knew the Lord and spent a lot of time in God’s presence. This was the source of his strength. When he was in trouble, it was natural for him to turn to the Lord. He directed his questions to God.

Unlike King Saul who turned to a spiritual medium when he was in crisis, David diligently sought for God’s will. The reason he won his battles was because he sought for God’s mind before going into each battle

*• He knew how to hear directly from God.* He did not outsource his spiritual direction to others. Instead of asking Abiathar, the priest, to inquire of the Lord on his behalf, David sought the Lord for himself. Even in the Old Testament, when people depended on the prophet to hear from God, David learnt to hear from God directly.

He followed God’s leading faithfully. Once he knew the mind of God, he followed. He didn’t seek for God’s will for fun. He was a doer of God’s will.

_*Prayer:* Heavenly Father, show me what to do in every situation. Lead me one step at a time into your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen._
