Justice Must Prevail: End Mob Justice and Restore Law and Order in Sabon Zongo
DarulHadith Islamic Centre expresses its profound sorrow and deep concern over the tragic death of Yussif Zakari, who reportedly lost his life after being brutally assaulted by a group of individuals at Sabon Zongo, Asokore Mampong, over allegations of stealing GH¢4,800.
If the reported facts are confirmed through investigations, this incident represents a grave violation of both the laws of Ghana and the teachings of Islam. No individual or group has the authority to arrest, try, convict, and execute another human being. Justice belongs to the courts, not to mobs.
Allah says:
“O you who believe! Stand firmly for justice as witnesses for Allah.”
(Qur’an 4:135)
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also said:
“Your blood, your property, and your honour are sacred.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
Our Demands
DarulHadith respectfully calls on:
1. The Hon. Minister for the Interior to urgently intervene and ensure that this matter receives the highest level of attention.
2. The Inspector-General of Police and the Ghana Police Service to conduct a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation, arrest every individual involved, and prosecute them according to the laws of Ghana.
3. The authorities to identify and dismantle every criminal network operating in the area known as Kan Bola, and to restore lasting peace, security, and lawful order in the community.
4. Community leaders, religious leaders, youth leaders, and residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement by providing truthful information and refusing to shield anyone involved in criminal acts.
A Firm Warning
DarulHadith wishes to state clearly that no person, regardless of their position or influence, should interfere with the course of justice by shielding, intimidating witnesses, or attempting to obstruct investigations. Anyone who aids or protects criminal suspects undermines justice, endangers the safety of the community, and weakens public confidence in the rule of law.
Justice must never be sacrificed for tribal, political, family, or personal interests.
Our Appeal
We urge all residents of Sabon Zongo and the wider Zongo community to reject mob justice completely. Crime must be reported to the police, and suspects must be handed over alive to face due process. Violence only produces more violence and leaves families and communities devastated.
DarulHadith extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and prays that Allah grants them patience and comfort. We also pray for peace, security, and justice throughout our communities.
“Whoever kills a soul unjustly… it is as though he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves one, it is as though he has saved all mankind.” (Qur’an 5:32)
Justice must prevail. The rule of law must be upheld. Mob justice has no place in a civilized society or in Islam.
