Edward Wereko Boateng. Brief History of Ascension Baptist Church:
The church was established on Sunday 19th May, 1991. Grace Baptist Church had the vision of establish the church on 31st December, 1990. He tasked the Oforikrom Community Fellowship and Evangelism Committee of Grace Baptist Church to make preparations to establish the church. There was a weeklong evangelism crusade organized to get
new converts to start the church. There were three nights of the crusade at Bomso and another three nights at Anloga. The first ever service had 70 people attending; 30 adult and 40 children. Rev Abban, Rev Fredua Agyeman and Rev Nii Amo aided by the then PTA chairman the late Nana Asamoah and the Odikro, spoke to the then headmaster of Bomso MA School Mr. Ayivi for a single classroom for church services. Helpful in those crusades were Deacon John Buabeng, Deacon Fredua Agyeman, Rev Kingsley Arthur and Deacon Owusu Johnson; and in the growth of the church were these leaders - Rev. Atto Abban, Deacon John Buabeng, Rev Amissah, Deaconess Georgina Swanzy, Madam Cynthia Abban and Kojo Boateng. As grace abounded, the church moved from the single classroom to a double classroom which the Grace Baptist Church financed it furnishing. Grace Baptist Church paid for drums, chairs and chalk boards for Sunday school. The church chose 7 deacons to serve as it grew. Grace Baptist Church put Rev Kingsley Arthur through seminary for 3 years to pastor the church afterwards. During those 3 years, Rev Arthur came home during weekends to help Rev Alex Kyei and Rev Amissah to run the church. Rev Asante was the first chairman for the church’s annual thanksgiving. The late Antwi Buassiako was the chairman of the second annual thanksgiving. Deacon Assumadu Tannor is the 3rd choir master of the church, and he has been the choir master since. The church grew in number exceeding the capacity of the double classroom. There was a need to run two services to contain the number. The double services couldn’t solve the overflow problem. Most of the members preferred the first service to second, so the second service couldn’t hold. Mission:
