THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE SPIRIT

2 CORINTHIANS 13:11-14

It is the Holy Spirit that enables Christian fellowship. No Spirit, no fellowship. Our fellowship with the Father and with Jesus Christ our LORD is in the Spirit. That's where the Father and the Son meets us. They meet us in the Spirit.

Christian fellowship is not just a meeting of gathered people. Yes, we gather but the real communion takes place in and by the Spirit. All you need to do to disintegrate Christian fellowship is to remove the Spirit. The Christian church is constituted by the Spirit. We are Spirit made and Spirit-enabled.

The Christian and the church functions strictly by the Spirit. That's their domain. We neglect the Spirit to our own peril. All spiritual life is enabled and transmitted by him. He communicates God's presence to us. That's how we have fellowship with the Father. He makes Jesus real to us. That's the essence of fellowship.

Fellowship is not a program. It is a participation. Thus the Spirit enables us to participate in God. The Spirit is the believer's "space suit". Without him, we cannot participate in God.

Astronauts who travel to space put on a different costume to enable them participate in the space life. There is no way they can interact with the life there without the space suit. The Spirit makes our interaction with God possible. That is fellowship.

Embrace the Spirit. Enjoy the fellowship.

RECOGNITION! RECOGNITION! RECOGNITION!

ACTS 2:12-18

If you fail to recognize a guest in your house, you cannot host that guest well. We only host guests after we have fully recognized them as our guests.

Believers in the New Testament must recognize there is a Heavenly Guest in our midst. And the early Christians did. They did so well in recognizing the Spirit amongst them (Acts 15:28).

We need to recognize the Spirit to host him and do so very well. There is nothing frustrating as a guest who is not welcome. Just think about it. You were given an address to go to, hoping you'll have a great time there. But as you got there, they did not receive you. In fact they wouldn't even recognize your presence. It cannot get any worst than that.

Alas, we can do that to the Holy Spirit. The pathway to everything the Holy Spirit can do is first of all to recognize him. That was the life of the early church. They recognized the Spirit amongst them. Peter told inquirers, "this is that". What is that? "The Spirit is here". That's what he meant (Acts 2:16, 17).

From that moment on, life was never the same for Peter and the other disciples. They played an excellent host to the Spirit. They had fellowship with the Spirit. The Spirit could freely speak to them. Think about it (Acts 10:19, 20).

What is the use of a guest in your house but both of you hardly talk? That's not how to welcome someone and make them feel at home. Time up! Let us recognize the Heavenly Guest.

From today, know there is someone else with you. That's the Spirit. When we gather together, know there is a distinguished guest in our midst. He is invisible but he is very present. Recognition! Recognition! Recognition! There is a Guest in our midst. The Spirit is here.

DAILY STRENGTH READING 📖

THE SPIRIT

JOHN 16:7-15

Every Christian knows and is enamored with Jesus. Do you know that? This is rightly so because he saved us. He is our LORD and Saviour. We want to go all the day long saying "I love you Jesus, I worship and adore you". That's great. It ought to be so.

But Jesus himself said it is advantageous that he goes away so that he will send the Spirit to us. Who wouldn't want Jesus to stay by him physically? But Jesus did not think that is the best thing for him to do. And we had better trust Jesus. He knew exactly what he was talking about, that it is expedient he goes for Another to come. That another is the Spirit.

It's a mystery that this same Spirit makes Jesus more real to us than even his physical presence with us (John 16:12-15). For instance, the early apostles and disciples never felt they needed the physical presence of Jesus anymore once the Spirit came.

Moreover, they didn't feel a sense of helplessness with the departure of Jesus to heaven once the Spirit came. They rather became bold and enterprising believers. Jesus who is now in heaven was like "I told you, it is better I went away". The disciples lived a very exciting, adventurous and fulfilling life. All these happened because of the Spirit.

What about us? Well, what they've got, we also have. We have all been baptized by one baptism into the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). None of us should be acting as if it would have been better for Jesus to stay right here with us. His plans and purposes go beyond his physical presence. He is still carrying out an extensive and powerful ministry through his Spirit in believers today. That includes you.

Thank God Jesus went and sent us the Spirit. Right now, the Christian counting system counts not just the believers but the Spirit. We are in fellowship with him just as we are with each other. This is something key that we must recognize.

LET'S JUST PRAISE THE LORD

PSALM 21:1-13

Praise is the victory note of the spirit just as peace is the victory note of the soul. God gives all to the redeemed. Praise is the celebration of the victory of the LORD.

All the work of grace is victory. Salvation is victory. Justification is big time victory. It is the believer walking out of the court of justice declared a winner of the case against him by all his past and Satan. That's victory (Romans :30-34). Sanctification is resounding victory. It is daily enjoyment of victory over the flesh, the world and the devil (1 John 5:4, 5).

Now, a victory like this can only make you explode with praise until you ask for a thousand tongues to sing your Great Redeemer's praise.

So what? Let's just praise the LORD. Think well and praise well.

How He filled me with the Holy Ghost
Healed me to the uttermost
When I think about the Lord
How He picked me up, turned me around
How He set my feet on solid ground
It makes me want to shout;
Alleluia, thank You, Jesus
Lord, You're worthy of all the glory
And all the honor, and all the praise

Let the praises ring. You never read of a praise leader in the New Testament even though there are instances of praise, even in the prison (Afts 16:25). Do you know why? Their testimony was their praise leader. When you know that you know the LORD has saved you, you will praise. Let's go!

WHY SHOULD I WORRY?

MATTHEW 6:25-34

Worry is the cheap game of wasting time and energy about how something is going to be resolved. It is the needless dissipation of emotional and spiritual energy. Worrying is wasting. It is the contempt of faith and the mockery of hope.

If you only knew what God has done, is doing right now and shall do, you will have nothing to do with worry. It's either assurance or worry. They are mutually exclusive. You can't have both.

The opposite of assurance is worry and all the evils it opens you up to. Worrying is mistrust of the God of all hope (Romans 15:13). Assurance is trust in God. As for God he can be trusted. That's the point of scriptures (Romans 15:4). Scripture is a testimony of God's trustworthiness that we might have full assurance of hope. The scripture affirms to all who have ears to hear that; the future belongs to you.

Assurance says there is nothing to worry about. Worrying says there is nothing to be assured of. Think about it. So you mean you are no longer sure of God, his love, his plan and purpose for you? That's what you do when you worry.

What deals with worry is more than resolve. It takes assurance to rout worry. Be full of assurance and you'll be free of worry. Being full of assurance leaves no space for worry. A life of full assurance of hope in the living God is healthy. It's healthy for your soul. It's calming for your mind. It's helpful for joyful perseverance. It's a cheer for your future.

Whom shall I fear?
And why should I worry?
Your grace is enough for my need
Your joy is my strength
Your peace is my shelter
You faithfully watch over me

I will rest in Your love
Put my trust in Your goodness
And set my thoughts on peaceful things above
I will cast away my cares
And find my joy in Your presence
I will rest, I will rest in Your love

CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE: CELEBRATION OF GOOD WORKS

EPHESIANS 2:10

The grace of God that brings salvation ushers the saved into a life zealous of good works. Perhaps, you have heard or read before that "faith without works is dead" (James 2:26). Do you know why? It is by practical actions we know someone has the faith of Jesus Christ. Faith is not a form of godliness but lacking in the power of real dynamic works.

Jesus said "let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). That's Christian influence. After we have repented of our sins, God regenerates us and releases us into a colorful display of good works (Ephesians 2:10).

Every Christian is on duty everyday, even if he has a day off from him place of work or he's on vacation somewhere. We are on constant duty of good works.

If christians are transforming the world at all, it is by their good works. The world is already full of bad works. Evil is everywhere. But the christian is not part of it. He is out of it. He lives differently. How different? Good works (Titus 3:8).

The good works of Christians transform the world. We can't even begin to talk about it. It is a light and salt effect in a very dark and corrupt world. Join the army of onward Christian soldiers, marching with the influence of Christ, who is gone before.

Have you repented of sin and unbelief concerning Christ? Have you been regenerated by the power of God? Then welcome to a thrilling life of good works.

Some Christians are doing these good works in the quiet of their home. Others are doing it on a mission field somewhere. Amazing. Others are carrying out these good works in their busy offices. Some are on it in the market square and in public offices.

As for Christians, everywhere they go, good works happen, even in Caesar's residence (Philippians 4:22). Let your light so shine indeed.

DAILY STRENGTH READING 📖

CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE: CELEBRATION OF GRACE

1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-11

To what do we owe Christian influence? The answer is the grace of God. What about that? Well, the grace of God that brings salvation appeared to sinners and made saints out of them. "Just as I am" everyone came. And just like that, he saved them.

Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin.

That's the wonder of grace. It transformed ungodly people and brought an observable difference of godliness, righteousness and holiness into their lives. Consequently they became a marvel to the world. Godliness, holiness and righteousness are not our natural settings. Our natural default settings is wickedness (Titus 3:3).

But God's grace has transforming power. When you meet grace, you meet transformation. Grace is the power of God that makes new creatures in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). That's amazing.

Yes, grace is unmerited favour but it is also dynamic power. It is God's ability at work. This is what happened to depraved men, radically changed them and made them a wonder to the world. Sinners became trophies of his grace. That's the triumph of his grace.

If you are a Christian today, it means you are in the long line of celebrating over two thousand years of Christ's power to save lives. His grace has not lost its power. It reaches to the highest mountain and it flows to the lowest valley. It washes whiter than snow. It gives dignity out of depravity.

Christian influence means God's grace has won. By this grace, countless people have been justified, sanctified and made indubitable witnesses to Christ's saving power.

Give the winds a mighty voice-
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Let the nations now rejoice-
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Shout salvation full and free,
Highest hills and deepest caves;
This our song of victory-
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
That grace is still dynamic today. You can be changed and made different until you also influence others with this same grace. Christian influence! Celebration of grace indeed.
