Prescription for the Poor
"...Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see; the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."
Matthew 11:4-5
From the scriptures above we can see that every problem has a specific solution. The blind man needs to see, the lame needs to walk, the deaf needs to hear, but the poor need the gospel.
Is the wisdom of God not amazing? I would have thought that the poor person needs money, houses, schools, pipe borne water etc. But Jesus has only one prescription for the poor; the gospel.
And rightfully so, in medical science specific drugs are prescribed by a doctor for specific ailments. When you have a badly decayed tooth causing you great pain and discomfort, your dentist will prescribe an extraction of that tooth to relieve you of all the pain. Rinsing your mouth twice a day and inserting concoctions into the cavity will not help even though they may seem to bring temporary relief. But the permanent solution is for the tooth to be removed.
We cannot be wiser than God. What will save the poor is the gospel preached to them, not education, social amenities etc or even money, even though they are also important. They are good but cannot eradicate poverty.
Jesus said "the Spirit of The Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor..."(Luke 4:18) not to give money to the poor.
Do you desire a change in your family, society, town or village? Send the gospel there. It will transform the lives of those people and make them prosper.
