THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED

There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. —Proverbs 14:12

Life is all about choices. We choose between alternative options based on what we see or perceive as right or preferable. In our spiritual lives, our professions, our character or even in our relationships, we make choices every day. The right path in life is not determined by how many people are on it. Indeed, the majority can be, and is often wrong.

In his famous poem on ‘The Road Not Taken’, Pulitzer Prize winning poet Robert Frost wrote, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” Matthew 7:13-14 affirms the wise choice of road when it states, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Make enduring choices in life. Do not be attracted solely by what is fashionable or has wide appeal. Choose the path that is godly, honest, diligent and principled. It may often seem attractive to do otherwise. Those who choose ungodliness, rebellion and dishonesty may sometimes seem to be right in the short-term but their end is destruction. Choose life in Christ. Let the word of God guide you and be your ultimate reference point. Whenever you face a conflict between what is popular and what is scriptural, go for the road that is less travelled but which leads to life.

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes and guide me in every choice I make.
