Have you ever been praying, worshipping, or sitting quietly when you suddenly sensed a fragrance or odor that seemed to have no natural source?

These are important questions because mature believers must learn the difference between discernment and assumption.

Throughout Scripture, God communicated in many ways:

• Through angels
• Through signs
• Through impressions
• Through prophetic symbolism
The Holy Spirit may sometimes draw attention to something through one of our senses.
However, we must remember an important truth:
🔑 The smell is not the authority.
🔑 Jesus is the authority.
🔑 The smell may be an alert.
🔑 The Holy Spirit provides interpretation.
🔑 The Word of God remains the final authority.
Many believers make the mistake of becoming fascinated with manifestations while neglecting the One who gives them.
The purpose of discernment is never the experience itself.
The purpose is to hear God more clearly and obey Him more faithfully.

📖 GOD TRAINS OUR SPIRITUAL SENSES
Hebrews 5:14
"But solid food is for those who are mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil."
Notice that Scripture speaks about senses being trained.
Spiritual maturity involves discernment.
Discernment grows through:

• Intimacy with God
• Experience under the guidance of the Holy Spirit
Immature believers jump to conclusions.
Mature believers seek God's interpretation.

"What did I smell?"

"What is God saying?"

"The word of the Lord came..."

"The smell came."
The smell may alert you.
The Holy Spirit interprets.
The Word confirms.
Jesus remains Lord over it all.

2 Corinthians 2:15
"For we are the aroma of Christ to God."
The goal of spiritual maturity is not merely to discern supernatural fragrances.
The goal is to become the fragrance of Christ.
People may never smell supernatural perfume around you.
But they should encounter:
• Christ's love
• Christ's humility
• Christ's holiness
• Christ's compassion
• Christ's character
This is the fragrance Heaven values most.

REVELATION’S SYMBOLS & NUMBERS: Who Is the Woman with a Child in Revelation 12?

[Part 4 of Revelation's Vision Series]

IN THE book of Revelation, God does not merely speak—He unveils. Through vivid symbols and prophetic imagery, He reveals truths that span from ancient Israel to the end of the age. One of the most striking visions appears in Revelation 12:1–2:

“A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.”

Who is this radiant woman? Why is she in travail? And what does her story reveal about God’s people in prophecy?

THE WOMAN: More Than One Layer

At first glance, interpretations vary—some identify the woman as Mary, others as the Church. Yet when Scripture interprets Scripture, a clearer, unified picture emerges.

The imagery of the sun, moon, and twelve stars unmistakably echoes Joseph’s dream in Genesis 37:9–10. There, the sun represents Jacob, the moon Rachel, and the twelve stars the tribes of Israel. This is no coincidence. The woman is Israel—the covenant people of God, chosen to bring forth the Messiah.

But prophecy often operates in layers. This woman is not limited to ethnic Israel alone. She represents the faithful community of God across time—what Stephen called “the church in the wilderness” (Acts 7:38), and what Paul later described as “the Israel of God” (Galatians 6:16).

In the Old Testament, God portrayed Israel as a woman adorned with beauty and honor (Ezekiel 16), and even as His wife (Isaiah 54:5). In the New Testament, the Church continues that identity—called a pure bride, awaiting Christ (Ephesians 5:25–27; Revelation 19:7).

THE CHILD: The Promised King

Revelation 12:5 removes all ambiguity:

“She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne.”

This is none other than Jesus Christ—the fulfillment of Isaiah 9:6 and Psalm 2:9. Born through Israel, rejected by many, crucified, resurrected, and ascended to God’s throne—His identity is unmistakable.

The woman’s labor pains symbolize centuries of waiting, suffering, and prophetic anticipation. From Abraham to David, through exile and oppression, Israel travailed until the Messiah came.

THE DRAGON: War Against the Covenant

Enter the dragon—identified plainly as Satan (Revelation 12:9). His mission is clear: destroy the Child and persecute the woman.

This reflects history. From Pharaoh’s slaughter of Hebrew infants (Exodus 1), to Herod’s massacre in Bethlehem (Matthew 2), Satan has sought to eliminate the Messiah. Failing that, he turns his fury toward the woman.

“The dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring—who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Revelation 12:17)

Here is a crucial prophetic insight: the woman’s offspring are defined by two marks—obedience and testimony. They keep God’s commandments and hold to the faith of Jesus. This is the true Church—not merely by name, but by practice and truth.

THE WILDERNESS: Divine Protection in Tribulation

Twice in Revelation 12, the woman flees into the wilderness for 1,260 days—a prophetic period representing intense tribulation.

This is not defeat—it is divine preservation.

Just as God sheltered Israel in the wilderness after the Exodus, He will again protect His people during the final crisis. Jesus Himself alluded to this in Matthew 24, warning of a coming time of great tribulation, yet assuring deliverance for the elect.

The wilderness symbolizes a place of refuge, testing, and spiritual preparation—where God nourishes His people away from the reach of the dragon.

TWO WOMEN, Two Congregations

Revelation presents a striking contrast.

In chapter 12, a pure woman—faithful, persecuted, chosen.
In chapter 17, a corrupt woman—the “great harlot,” adorned in luxury, drunk with deception.

These are not merely symbols—they represent two spiritual systems:

▪️One obedient, persecuted, and aligned with truth

▪️The other popular, powerful, and spiritually compromised

The question is unavoidable: Which woman do you belong to?

THE PROPHETIC DESTINY: A Wedding, Not a War

The story does not end in persecution—but in union.

“The marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” (Revelation 19:7)

The same woman who fled, suffered, and endured is now glorified—clothed in righteousness, prepared as a bride for Christ.

This is the ultimate destiny of God’s people—not escape, but transformation; not defeat, but covenant fulfillment.

The woman of Revelation 12 is not a mystery meant to confuse—it is a revelation meant to awaken.

She is Israel.

THE CALLING OF ISAIAH — WHEN GOD PURIFIES BEFORE HE SENDS

Isaiah 6:6–7 — “Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal… and he touched my mouth with it, and said: ‘Behold, this has touched your lips; your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.’”

In Isaiah 6, we are drawn into one of the most overwhelming encounters in Scripture — a moment where heaven invades earth, and a man comes face to face with the holiness of God. Isaiah sees the Lord high and lifted up, His glory filling the temple, and immediately he becomes aware of something deep and undeniable: his own unworthiness.

He cries out, “Woe is me, for I am undone!” This is the response of anyone who truly encounters God — not pride, not self-confidence, but humility and conviction. In the presence of perfect holiness, every hidden flaw is exposed. Isaiah doesn’t compare himself to others; he sees himself in the light of God’s glory.

But here is the turning point — God does not leave him in that state.

A seraphim takes a burning coal from the altar and brings it to Isaiah’s lips. This is not an act of destruction, but of purification. The fire represents God’s holiness — a fire that does not consume him, but cleanses him. His sin is not ignored; it is dealt with. His guilt is not covered up; it is removed.

This moment reveals a powerful truth: before God uses a person, He purifies them.

Many want to be called, to be seen, to be used greatly — but few are willing to go through the fire of cleansing. God is not looking for perfection; He is looking for surrender. The same lips that confessed unworthiness are the ones God touches and makes clean.

And immediately after this cleansing, the voice of the Lord is heard: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?”

Now Isaiah can respond — not from guilt, not from fear, but from a place of transformation: “Here am I! Send me.”

This is the pattern of God: revelation, conviction, purification, then calling.

You cannot skip the process. The fire you fear may be the very thing that prepares you. The conviction you feel is not rejection — it is an invitation. God does not expose to shame you; He reveals to restore you.

Today, God is still calling people. Not the perfect, not the flawless — but the willing. Those who will allow Him to cleanse their hearts, refine their character, and set them apart.

The question is not whether God is calling — He is.
The question is: Will you allow Him to purify you so you can answer?
