SLAVERY BEFORE VICTORY
Genesis 15:13-14

Then the Lord said to Abram, “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years.
But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth.

REFLECTION: Suffering is part of our Christian journey. God intentionally allows His people to pass through difficult situations as a way of training for tomorrow's victory. The Jews lived as slaves for 400 years but at the end they came out with great wealth. Whatever suffering you are going through will not last forever. God will surely bring you out with great wealth tomorrow. Don't give up on Jesus Christ, but rather continue to believe and put your trust in Him and you will surely be victorious at the end.

Good morning and have a blessed day.🙏🙏🙏

LET PEACE PREVAIL
Genesis 13:7-8

So disputes broke out between the herdsmen of Abram and Lot. At that time Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land.
Finally Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not allow this conflict to come between us or our herdsmen. After all, we are close relatives!

Reflection: We must strive to pursue peace wherever we find ourselves; in the family, workplace, community, church, home, country etc. Do your best to live in peace with all people, for a servant today can become your master tomorrow. Therefore, let peace be your banner wherever you find yourself. We serve the God of peace.

Good morning and have a fruitful day🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

*PAYING THE PRICE OF SOWING*

*Scripture Reading*
1 Samuel 2:12-18

*EXPOSITION:* Undoubtedly, through Christ Jesus, we are restored to the glorious place of sonship with the potential for leadership. Nevertheless, the potential for leadership that lies within us requires some personal commitment for it to manifest. Leadership is like a seed, it needs nurturing to blossom into a full plant. And so, there must be a deliberate effort to graduate the potential into reality.

In the course of this week’s devotion, we shall take strides in the farmer’s field to draw some relevant lessons from his various disciplines. We will closely examine the efforts the farmer exerts into nurturing a seed into a tree – beginning with sowing today.

Sowing plays an important role in farming because sowing provides the foundation of a successful crop. The farmer always endeavours to till the ground – through the loosening and ploughing of the soil. – to provide a conducive environment suitable for growth before the activity of sowing.

The young Samuel found himself in a warped and corrupt generation, where the temptation and risk of being influenced negatively was very high. The risk of compromising to indulge in ungodly acts was as high as he stayed with the unscrupulous sons of Eli under the same roof. However, from 1 Samuel 2:18, we realize that he kept on ministering before the Lord with his garment untainted. Samuel had recognized the seed of leadership deposited in him, and so even in the corrupt house he found himself – he strived to preserve himself to provide a suitable environment for the growing of the viable seed of God in him.

The built-in seed of leadership predisposes the Christian as a leader but does not make him a leader. So you may be charismatic, influential and inspiring by nature – but these literally doesn’t guarantee that you will grow to become a leader. The process of growing into maturity as a leader requires a radical reordering of your priorities and focus in life. The Christian must endeavour to preserve himself in holiness for the growth of the seed of leadership buried in them.

*PRAYER:* Father, please help me preserve myself in holiness.

*MEMORY VERSE FOR THIS WEEK:*
Ephesians 4:15 - ‘‘Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.’’

*GROWING THE LEADER IN YOU*

*Scripture Reading:* Genesis 1:26-31; Galatians 4:1-7; Ephesians 4:15

*EXPOSITION*
In today's scripture reading, we come across a wonderful account on the creation of humanity and the great potentials that were enshrined in the spiritual make-up of humanity. One of the incredible blessings that was lavished on humanity in creation was the potential of leadership - where humanity was endowed with the blessing to rule and have dominion. The true power of the spoken words of blessing God declared on us is beyond our common human reasoning and understanding. A potent and viable seed of leadership which confers on man the ability to take charge and possess their world was deposited in humanity.
We are leaders by creations - we were created withe the seed of leadership. God originally made the created man a potential leader. However, this glorious place was lost through the disobedience of one man (Adam). Graciously, there is a provision made by the 'loving God' with the authority to possess - that is when we acknowledge that we are sinners and believe that Jesus Christ has died to pay for our sins for the forgiveness of sins.
Jesus christ is God's provision for humanity for their restorative salvation from the kingdom of the devil to the kingdom of God. Anyone who has no relationship with God's son Jesus Christ cannot share in the blessings of the kingdom of God. Through Christ Jesus, we attain the legal right of sonship and are commissioned to rule and possess the nations for God. It is only in Christ Jesus that we can be able to reach our full potential as leaders to become useful in our generation and the world at large. So let's endeavour to sustain a continuous and lively relationship with Him.

*PRAYER:* Dear Lord Jesus, I believe that I am a sinner. And I believe that Jesus is the son of God and He died for my sins and resurrected for my justification that I may be saved. Amen!!

*CHOOSING RIGHT PARTNER (II)*

*Scripture Reading:* 1Corinthians 2:10-15

*EXPOSITION*

Many people prepare themselves for important things like their Career, education, examination or journey but they rarely prepare for a successful marriage. Choosing a life partner is the most important decision you will ever make in your life aside your decision to follow Christ. This decision is far more crucial than any other decision you will probably take. It is good, one must look for some traits in a life partner. Let's look at some.

*ACCESS THE INTELLECTUAL LEVEL OF YOUR PARTNER:* If you are high achiever and aggressive in pursuing your dreams, consider a person with similar attributes. Choosing a laid-back person could cause problems in the relationship. Both of you must view things and reason almost from similar angles.
*MANAGING EMOTIONS:* Arguments are unavoidable in relationships sometimes. How we manage them is key. The word of God enjoins us to endeavour to control our emotions. How your partner (if married) or potential life partner reacts to anger reveals a lot about future reactions and how they have allowed the Spirit of God to empower them to have control over their emotions. If your prospective life partner can't handle anger well, the situation can get out of control when you get married. Therefore, it is important to consider how your partner allows the Holy Spirit to work on their emotions.
*CHOOSE AN HONEST PARTNER:* If a relationship is not enshrined in a culture of honesty and trust, it will definitely fail. To be honest is to open and without pretentions to build a culture of honesty and trust in a relationship or marriage, choosing a life partner who does not refrain from open and honest life is very important.
*DON'T CHOOSE A LAZY PARTNER:* A partner who is lazy can be difficult to be with in the sense that they will rely on you for everything, by this they become liability in your life. A partner exhibiting such traits can be advised for change or can be avoided. At our age as young people, God is working on us for marriage relations that will honour His name. We must work with God to make this happen, if we are going to succeed on this, we must take the above factors serious. These points and many more can be considered prayerfully when thinking of a life partner as a young person. Don't be blinded by love but carry your brains as well.

*CHOOSING RIGHT PARTNER*

*Scripture Reading:* 2Corinthians 6:14-18, Songs of Solomon 8:7

*EXPOSITION*

How to find a life partner or choosing the right life partner is a high stake decision and it starts with understanding what to look for in a life partner. Finding the right partner is essential for a happy healthy marriage. As pleasant as it may sound it can be very confusing to choose a life partner. As Christians, however, we do not just make a choice. We make God leads us to make the right choice. We plunge into a life time of joy once we allow Him to help us settle on the right person. Thus you need to let God help you to know what to look for in a good person and how to choose a life partner for marriage. So, if you are trying to figure out how to pick your life partner or look for in a partner, below are some of the important factors to consider:

*DO NOT CHOOSE AN UNBELIEVER:* The Bible says we should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. In obedience to this, try your best not to choose an unbeliever and think you can change them. "What has darkness got to do with light?" Don't choose an unbeliever and start looking for an antidote to live with him or her. It is dangerous to fall for someone who is not accountable to God in their lives. It is against the provision of the Bible and there are repercussions.

*CHOOSE A PARTNER WHO FEARS GOD* : A partner may be a believer but still not fear God. In that case there is no guarantee that they will act according to the word of God. The only thing that can keep your partner in charge and love you genuinely is the fear of God, for they know God will judge their intentions and actions, and they will also wait to please God. So look for a partner who fears God and want to please Him always.

*CONSIDER A LIFE PARTNER WHO IS KEEN ON YOUR LIFE:* A person willing to be in a relationship leading to marriage must show genuine support for your ambitions and goals in life. Your potential life partner must be supportive of your plans to advance your career or pursue a worthy course. Look for this virtue in a potential partner. By this they will show themselves to be people ready to support your progress. As you work with God in this vital areas, you will be gradually making headway on settling on the person God has prepared for you.

*PREPARATION TOWARDS MARRIAGE*

*Scripture Reading:* Luke 14:1-28, Songs of Solomon 8:7

*EXPOSITION*

Jesus has nailed it from the scripture we read that "suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have money to complete it? For if you lay foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it ridicule you, saying, this person began to build and was not able to finish". This scripture applies to marriage too. Marriage is for two mature adults who are well prepared on how they will live with each other. This requires adequate preparation. When you prepare properly you will enjoy your Union. Jacob and Rachel can be used as a perfect example in the context of preparing towards marriage. Rachel was a Shepherd and Jacob a hard working man. Rachel was a single woman who made herself busy and worked to help her family. Thus, the principle we learn from them is that work proceeds marriage for both males and females. We can't put living on hold until after we get married. Other practical aspects to look out for are: (1) The God factor (2) Knowing yourself (3) Maturity level (4) Spirituality (5) Temperament (6) Likes/Dislikes (7) Vision/Purpose (8) Health status/Blood group (9) Being financial independent (10) knowing what you are looking for (11) Setting qualities or Having a mental picture of the person you want to live with (12) Accessing your readiness and many more. When you have successfully settled this then you are ready to bring someone on board to be your wife or husband. This small exercise will help you get well prepared for marriage and later have a robust marriage. That will not make people ridicule you as Jesus said. Perfect planning will guarantee a successful marriage.

*REAL LOVE (JACOB AND RACHEL)*

*Scripture Reading:* Genesis 29:1-13, Song of Solomon 8:7

*EXPOSITION*

If you are a young person and you are not already married, one major task ahead of you is how you will settle on real love. Jacob and Rachel are good examples to follow. Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her as we read from Genesis 29:20. Movies, television and books have created love stories to make young people believe infatuation love is real love. *"Real love"* is not about how you feel, but all about what's best for your relationship now and in the future by the will of God. A big lesson can be learnt from Jacob. Even though he loved Rachel, he did not run away with her, neither did he act irresponsibly. He had patience and served her father to marry Rachel. He wanted a blessing from her father. Even after being tricked by Laban, he was still willing to serve for another seven years for Rachel. Infatuation comes and go quickly. Real love takes time and needs real sacrifice. The scriptures reveal real characteristics of real love. Love is kind. It does not seeks its own gratification. It does not think evil. It does not rejoice in iniquity (1Corinthians 13) and the list goes on and on. We all can testify how Jacob loved Rachel, even when things were difficult, this is real love not infatuation. May the Lord help us to find true love when the time comes.

*THE WORD OF GOD AS THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT*

*Scripture References:*
Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12.

*EXPOSITION* :
Various images have been used to describe the Bible, one of which is the ‘sword’. The sixth piece of armour that Paul discusses in Ephesians 6 is the sword of the Spirit, which also represents the Word of God. In both the Ancient Near East and the Greco-Roman world, the ‘sword’ was the most important weapon for warfare. It was used as both a defensive and an offensive weapon.

It was double-edged with a sharpened point to make it pierce an armour for deeper pe*******on. The word of God, however, is not just a sword; it is the ‘sword of the Spirit’. The Spirit of God is the author of the word of God, and He also uses it for the transformation of humanity. Our discussion today focuses on the word of God as the sword of the Spirit.

The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, is part of the Christian’s armoury in the fight against evil. The writer of Hebrews made it clear that the word of God is sharper than any double-edged sword. The sword of the Spirit speaks of its source and owner. It belongs to the Holy Spirit and is given by Him.

The Holy Spirit makes the Word divinely powerful and effective, making it alive and giving it a cutting and piercing edge. It is the sword of the Spirit because it is of God. The word of God has been likened to sword because of its ability to pierce even to the dividing of the soul, spirit and human heart and the physical body (joints and marrow). It is so potent that as it enters into a person, it brings about transformation. It also has devastating effect on Satan and his cohorts. To effectively use the word of God as the sword of the Spirit, we must study, memorise and declare it in battle.

*PRAYER GUIDE:*
Help me to preserve the sword of the Spirit as my weapon.

THE CHURCH AS AN ARMY OF GOD

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

EXPOSITION:
An army can be defined as a group of people selected and equipped to advance the cause of a nation or kingdom. Thus, to liken the church to an army depicts the church as God’s primary instrument of combat against systems of the world which militate against the reign of godly principles and values. Like an army, the Church exists for both defensive and offensive operations. The offensive operation does not suggest violence, but underscores the constant and needful warfare the church must wage to ‘take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ’.

To see the Church as an Army of God is crucial in these times. It projects the primary mission of the Church and appeals to the battle sense of the Church Militant. It is a wake-up call to the reality of the continuous battle against powers of this dark world, spirit of deception and spiritual forces of evil that cause humanity to rebel against God. ‘

Some arguments and philosophies which cause humans to rebel against God include moral relativism (that is, what is morally right or wrong depends on individuals, and there is no absolute), self-existentialism (exploring the human existence through thinking, feeling and acting), hedonism (the pursuit of pleasure or self-indulgence) and religious pluralism (the belief that all religions are salvific and all religions are good and are of equal value).

The army of God must not panic and throw her hands in despair at the mention and expression of such beliefs and perceptions. Rather, the Church must mobilise her troops and equip them to sufficiently engage their spheres and take them captive through the power of the Holy Spirit. For this mission, the Church as an army is calling on all members to make themselves available to be equipped and unleashed into their respective territories to influence them for Christ.

Pray as you are led.

*GOOD DOES NOT WANT PART-TIMERS*

*Scripture Reading:* Revelations 3:14-18

*Exposition*
“Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God,” has almost become a cliché. Many Christians and non-Christians alike, use this to justify the reason why they live double-standards. They portray themselves as being the most spiritual persons when they are found among believers, only to show the other side of their character when away from the saints. At church, they are the best preachers, singers, dancers etc. but all that ends immediately they leave the auditorium.

We are strongly admonished in today’s reading by the Lord Jesus Himself to be hot. He places before us two choices. Either we are hot or cold. He abhors lukewarmness. That is, either a full-time Christian or a full-time unbeliever. He takes no delight in part-timers. Jesus identifies Himself as a faithful and true witness. By this introduction, you get the sense that He expects the church to also be faithful and true in whatever it does. Also, it means that everything said about the Laodicean church is true. Like many Christians today, the Laodicean church lived a very hypocritical life. They tried to make people believe they were in right standing with God however, their true character was laid bare before the Lord.

As Christians who seek to possess the nations for Christ, we must not be deceived into thinking that we can please God by being lukewarm. We must understand that God knows what we do in our secret places. He is also clearly aware of our thoughts and motives. As we journey and walk through life, we must always give God our all and not a part of us.

*PRAYER GUIDE:*
Father, forgive me for being lukewarm. Help me be a full-time Christian from hence.

*MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK:*
1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV) - So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

*JESUS FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE*

*Scripture Readings:* Luke 22:66-69; Romans 8:18

Exposition:
In the midst of affliction and troubling times, Jesus focused on the future, so should we. It is important you do not miss what Jesus says in Luke 22:69. Remember, He was being tortured, about to be crucified and facing the wrath of God that is going to be poured upon Him for the sins of humanity, but He was focused on what this would provide for the future.

Jesus focused on the future glory. Though He was mocked, tortured and crucified, these turned out to be a great victory. A great victory that gave all believe in Him the opportunity to have their sins forgiven and live at peace with God.

A great victory that was demonstrated by His victorious resurrection over death, hell and the grave! A great victory that gives YOU and I the awesome privilege to one-day gather around His throne and forever worship and praise the Lamb that was slain that we might have life and have it more abundantly. A great victory that gave us all who believe in him the strength to go through the storms of life. Jesus did not let the pain and agony of the “here and now” distract Him from His purpose, nor distract Him from the future! Jesus, as in all things, set the example for us! We may face discouraging times and troubling moments. We may find ourselves up against insurmountable odds and may be misunderstood! But like Paul said, the sufferings of this present time cannot be compared to the glory that is awaiting us. (Romans 8:18) Even though we walk through the “valley of the shadow of death” we do not have to “fear any evil” because we know that our Great Shepherd is with us and that we are going to “dwell in the House of the Lord FOREVER!” We must not lose sight of the future in the midst of the fog.

*Prayer Guide:*
Lord, open our eyes to the glory ahead that we may endure the pain today.

*MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK:*
Job 9:19 (NIV) - “If it is a matter of strength, he is Mighty! And if it is a matter of justice, who can challenge him?
