*Born a Catholic, Raise a Catholic, Die a Catholic*
Christendom was divided because of that one Greek alphabet *" i "* (iota), known as the A***n heresy during the time of St. Athanasius
*Homoiousios* vs *Homoousios*
Just the difference of one iota which was the reason to split Christianity into two - A***n Heresy vs True Catholic Faith.
The whole dispute was surrounded around the two Greek words: *homoiousios* (ηομοιουσιος), meaning “of a similar substance,”
vs
*homoousios* (ηομοουσιος), meaning “of the same substance”; two words that differ by just a single Greek alphabet: *i* (iota)
The controversy:
*True Faith* _vs_ *A***n Heresy*
Jesus was in fact *“homoousian,”* meaning *the same as God*, but the heretic Arius preached that Jesus was “homoiousian,” that is, of a similar nature to God, but not the same as, God.
To settle the dispute the Council of Nicaea was called in 325 AD. Which declared that Jesus was in fact *“homoousian,”* meaning the same as God. The declaration was codified in a set of statements known as the *Nicene Creed* which states that Jesus is “one in being” with the Father. The Nicene creed is still recited at mass by Catholics to this day.
