NOTE
THE POWER, DOMINION AND AUTHORITY OF GOD
Introduction
The power of the Lord is beyond measure. As Psalm 147:5 declares, God's understanding is infinite and His power has no limit. Everything in creation β the heavens, the earth and all that is in it β belongs to Him. Psalm 24:1 reminds us that the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and all who dwell in it. This is not a power shared or borrowed; it belongs solely and completely to our God. Psalm 62:11 further confirms that power belongs to God, and God alone.
Dominion Exceeds Power
Our Lord Jesus Christ has dominion over the entire universe, and we must bear in mind that dominion exceeds power. In Genesis 1:26, God gave humanity dominion over everything He created β the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living creature. In that original state, humanity was never afraid of the wilderness or the wild. But when the enemy came, he stole that dominion from us and we became fearful of the very creation we were meant to rule over. What the enemy took, however, Christ came to restore.
Jesus is the Boss
Authority, power and dominion belong to our Lord Jesus Christ because He has conquered death, hell and the grave. Matthew 28:18 declares that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. It is on the basis of this total authority that He commissioned His disciples β not in their own strength, but in His. As Colossians 2:9 tells us, in Christ the fullness of the Godhead dwells in bodily form, meaning there is no power or authority outside of Him.
Even in the affairs of nations, this truth is being acknowledged. When President Trump declared that America needs power from the Boss because Jesus β not any earthly leader β is the true Boss, it was a remarkable acknowledgment that the most powerful nation on earth recognises Christ as Lord and Saviour of the world.
Our Vulnerability and the Source of Strength
1 Peter 5:10-11 assures us that the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish us. To Him belongs dominion forever and ever. This is our anchor. We become vulnerable when we allow sin to gain a foothold or when we permit the enemy to manipulate us β just as Samson lost his strength through compromise. But the promise of God is restoration and establishment, not permanent defeat.
Psalm 65:1-2 reminds us that praise belongs to God and that He hears prayer β meaning our access to His power is through worship and communion with Him. Psalm 105:4 further instructs us to seek the Lord and His strength, to seek His face continually. Our dominion is not self-generated; it flows from a constant and deliberate pursuit of God.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, by the authority in Matthew 28:18, every dominion that has been stolen from me β over my life, family, finances and territory β I declare it restored in Jesus' name.
2. Lord, according to 1 Peter 5:10-11, turn every area of my vulnerability into a place of strength and dominion. What the enemy has used against me, let it become my testimony.
3. By the power that belongs to You alone (Psalm 62:11), grant me dominion over my finances. Let me no longer struggle in lack but exercise authority over every financial battle in Jesus' name.
4. Father, I declare by the dominion You gave in Genesis 1:26 β I will not be remote-controlled by the enemy. I take control of every space and environment I find myself in, in Jesus' name.
5. Lord, as Psalm 105:4 commands, give me a heart that continually seeks Your face so that I walk in sustained strength and never lose my dominion through complacency or sin.
6. By the fullness of Christ declared in Colossians 2:9, let every power contesting my God-given authority be subdued. I walk in the dominion of Christ β over darkness, over fear and over every wilderness.
