Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle of Ghana’s Cape Coast Catholic Archdiocese has called on Catholics to participate actively in a nine-day Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus ahead of the Archdiocesan celebration of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In a statement issued on June 2, Archbishop Palmer-Buckle encouraged prayerful preparation for the Solemnity, describing devotion to the Sacred Heart as a means of deepening our relationship with the person of Jesus Christ and experiencing His mercy.
“The celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is meant to deepen our love for Christ and help us appreciate the inexhaustible mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ through meditation and contemplation,” he said.
Referring to the Novena scheduled to start on Wednesday, June 3, the Ghanaian Catholic Archbishop directed Parish Priests, Chaplains, and Rectors to organize and promote the devotional exercises in their respective communities.
“I wish to encourage all Priests and faithful of the Archdiocese to participate actively and devoutly in the traditional Novena to the Sacred Heart,” he said.
