In a situation where you were saved by God's grace tells you how God loves you. Our God loves us unconditionally and protect us in many ways. Sometimes,we only think of material things and money being what we expect from God as blessings. But to tell you the gospel truth, the most blessing you need is having a gift of life and good health. So when God grant you that, it's enough. The rest will follow. Don't forget, when you have life, you have everything. Always be grateful to God and thank him for being with you. Stay safe and always praise God's name.

PREPARING THE WAY
John the Baptist had the task of preparing the way for Jesus. If you remember the story of the sower and the seed, you will remember that the seed that took root and flourished was the seed that landed on good ground. John's job was to till the soil of the people's hearts and bring them to repentance, so that they would be "good soil" for the seeds of the Good News that Jesus would bring. Even when people asked him if he was the Messiah, he denied it and pointed the way to Jesus. During the Passover Seder, the Jewish families will leave an empty place at the table for Elijah and if a person knocks on the door during the meal, they will invite that person in just in case he is Elijah. They are still waiting for the Messiah, and, by extension, they are still waiting for Elijah. Because they want to keep the promise of the covenant in the minds of their children, they also repeat the Exodus story each Passover. They want to make sure that the seed is good. We need to make sure that our soil and the soil of our children is also good and fertile and will welcome the seeds of faith. At this time of year, we have the perfect opportunity to do this by telling the story of Christmas and also the story of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. Perhaps the youngest child able to read could read the story of Jesus' birth from the Bible. What we read aloud stays in the mind longer than a story read by another. We also need to nurture that seed by sharing our experience of Jesus in our own lives; how our faith is important to us and brings us joy. Just like John, we too are asked to prepare the way for the Lord.

TELL THE CHILDREN THE GLORY OF GOD
This is a good time to stop in our Advent preparations to make sure that we are passing on to future generations the goodness of God and his wondrous deeds. Have we already begun telling our children the story of Christmas from Luke's Gospel? After all, the media is already telling them the story of Santa Claus, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and any number of movies that have nothing to do with Jesus! We are the generation that is responsible for declaring God's mighty act to the next generation and if not us, then who? Are we still taking time to reflect on how our behavior is witnessing our faith? If not, we're only a third of the way through Advent so we still have time. That changes have we made? Are we kinder, more compassionate, and forgiving? Are we truly praising God every day? We declare that we are followers of Jesus, but are we sure that the path we are on is the one he wants us to be on? This is a tough time. There are so many distractions. If you work in retail, you are probably working overtime and are stressed because you don't have time to do your own shopping. I remember the days when I needed to work right up to the last minute. So, instead of stressing, I would pile the kids in the car, let the older ones pick up something for the grandparents, while I took the youngest and bought everything I needed to get all at once. Of course, I didn't have much money, so I could only get one or two things each. I can't see the point of going into debt for birthdays or holidays. Take some time today to breathe in the love of Christ and prepare the gift you are going to give him for his birthday.

TOPIC:TO BE DISCIPLE IS TO SUFFER FOR CHRIST;(1COR 4:10-13) As we read this passage from Paul's letter to the Corinthians, we are looking at a catalogue of the difficulties of being a disciple. Makes it easier to see why people don't drop everything and follow Jesus as quickly as the apostles did in yesterday's Gospel passage! Paul is contrasting what he is experiencing with how the Corinthians are feeling now that they have accepted Christ. They are unaware that there can easily be problems for them in the future because of their newfound faith. They think that they have passed beyond the "folly" of the passion and the cross. Paul is giving them a head's up. The time will come when they, too, could be persecuted for their faith. Paul is also contrasting his present circumstances with his expectations of the joys that eternal life will bring. Eventually he will be fed on the words of Jesus, his thirst for bringing the Gospel to others will be satisfied. Yes, he will still be beaten, and he will be cursed and persecuted, but he is certain of his final dwelling place in the Kingdom of God. We may be cursed when we work for justice; how will we respond? Will we bless those that curse us? In the sixties and seventies, there were many peaceful protests to bring about justice in America's South. These demonstrations were often met with police dogs, fire hoses, arrests and even death. The demonstrators were silent and did not curse those who were persecuting them but also didn't stop their efforts to obtain their ends. Paul tells the Corinthians and us that regardless of what we suffer in Jesus' name, the reward is eternal life and it is all worth it, may God bless you all in Jesus name Amen.

TOPIC: ROOT OUT ALL BITTERNESS AND HATRED FROM OUR HEARTS;(JAMES 3:14-18) Hijacking planes and killing innocent people does not make anyone sympathetic to a cause. Today we remember the day that two planes destroyed the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York as well as the one that hit the Pentagon and the one that was also aimed at Washington, D. C. and was stopped by the heroic actions of the people on that plane. If we want the world to come together and work together for peace, terrorism is not the way to go. Just think about your own family. If you want a peaceful family, you don't go out of your way to cause problems, fighting with one another and destroying one another's property. Peaceful people sit down and discuss their differences and try to work out a compromise. Jealousy and ambition are a deadly combination for anyone. We see how they contribute to problems within families, within neighborhoods, and between businesses. There are different forms of "wisdom" as we know. Jesus gave us the example of the corrupt steward who got caught and went back to those he had been swindling and had them rewrite the amount of goods they owed so that they would take care of him when he lost his position. Jesus praised him for his worldly wisdom. But that is not the wisdom that God gives us in the gift of the Holy Spirit. This wisdom is given to us so that we will be more able to follow his way of love and to see the best ways to bring justice to an unjust world. This is the wisdom that brings peace and not discord. If we begin to feel stirrings of jealousy, may we count our blessings and not what we lack. Remember, someone will always have more than you have and someone will always have less.

TOPIC:WE MUST FORGIVE AS GOD FORGIVES;(MATTHEW 18:21-23)I'm sure you are familiar with the parable of the unjust servant. The servant in this story owes the king a lot of money but when he begs the king for mercy and promises to pay it all back if he will just give him a little more time, the king forgives the debt. Then the servant sees another servant who owes him some money – nowhere near the amount he owed the king! – and he demands that the servant pay him back immediately. When the servant begs for more time, he refuses and has him put into prison until he can pay back the full amount. The other servants are horrified at his behavior and tell the king what has happened. The king calls in the servant and has him turned over to the "tormenters" until he can pay back the full amount. Any offense against God is a major offense, and yet God has forgiven us, and forgives us over and over again. We pray in the Our Father asking God to forgive us AS we forgive others. I'm not sure we mean it. Is there someone we still can't forgive? I'm not saying anything about forgetting. Have we asked God to help us forgive? The problem here, is that a lack of forgiveness does nothing for the person not forgiven, but it can keep us from moving on. In families it can keep brothers and sisters apart; parents and children, and can cause problems for generations. Let us be more like the King and less like the unworthy servant.
