LIFE
This life you have is eternal....
John 17:3
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (KJV)
These are the words of the one we call the Son of God. And He is, The Son. This life you have is eternal. So you'll live your eternity with the one you have knowledge of. Because you are the son (or a slave) of the one whose knowledge you possess.
from verse 1, These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father,.............
........ because He is the only one that called God Almighty, Father. Before Him the world knew God as God.
He said, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: ...........
He did not claim to be who He said He was.
Now verse 2 says, as thou hast given him (Talking About Himself in His prayer to the Father) power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3: And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Someone asked me one day and said,
Reverend,
What really is eternal life?
And my simple answer as always has been, is, JESUS. Choose Jesus, and He will give you rest (assurance that frees you from anxiety), peace and life (eternal).
One word, Jesus.
Just have the knowledge of Him, that He is the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF THE ONLY ONE TRUE GOD, and you'll have eternal life. Just that. No additional work to be done. Just as knowledge converts an ordinary person to a professor or a doctor or a driver. This knowledge of Him must add you to a category of people living on the earth, called the sons of God.
He said.... this is life eternal, that they might KNOW thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
The MIGHT is a verb, used tentatively to ask permission or to express a polite request. Meaning He politely asked all to "KNOW" the only true God, and Jesus Christ. Not just any other Christ. There has been plenty christs, but only one is true, and His name is JESUS.
SAY.....Lord Jesus, help me know firstly, the Father.
Reveal yourself to me, and
The Holy Spirit that I may be able to walk with Him,
in Him and He, in me, Amen.
