My study of Jerusalem from David the King of Israel indicated that King David purchased the Temple Mount, therefore Jerusalem belongs to the Jews. The destruction and restoration of Jerusalem was predicted by Christ Jesus (Matt 24:1-2, Luke 21:20-24).
In AD 70, Jerusalem was captured and destroyed by the Roman Army. Under Emperor Hadrian, Jerusalem was colonized and called Aelia Capitolina in A D 135. From thence, Jerusalem was ruled the Roman Empire until captured by the Persian under General Shahrbaraz in AD 614.
In AD 638, Caliph Ormar took Jerusalem. The Dome of the Rock was built in AD 691 and Al-Aqsa Mosque built in AD 701. In AD 1009, Calif Al-Hakim destroyed the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and crushed the tomb of Christ Jesus. In AD 1010, Calif Al-Hakim destroyed Synagogues and Churches in Jerusalem.
In AD 1096, Pope Urban called for crusade to take Jerusalem. Accordingly General Godfrey of Bouillon captured Jerusalem for Christendom in AD 1099. Woefully, General Saladin recaptured Jerusalem from the Crusaders in AD 1187. Sultan Selim of Ottoman peacefully took Jerusalem in AD 1517.
Fortunately, during the 1st World War, the British Army captured Jerusalem in AD 1917 when General Allenby entered Jerusalem. It restoration began after the Second World War that slaughtered 6,000,000 innocent Jews. In AD 1947, United Nations Resolution recommended the partion of the Land of Israel (Palestine) between the Jews and Palestinians, however, the Palestinian Arabs rejected the UN Partition Plan.
Hallelujah, when the British mandatory rule over Jerusalem expired that the State of Israel was restored on May 14, 1948. About seven Arab powerful Nations declared a destructive war to destroy the State of Israel from the Asian Minor. This war divided Jerusalem between Jews and Palestinians. The Jewish Army captured Western Jerusalem while Jordan took Eastern Jerusalem - Zach 14: 1-2.
The prophecy of Christ Jesus was fulfilled in AD 1967 when the Israeli Army captured Jerusalem in a Six Day War. In AD 1973, the Yom Kippur fought during the reign of Premier Golda Meir established the end of the Gentiles lordship over Jerusalem and the land of Israel. "And they shall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled" Luke 21:24.
With this short history, Inhabitants of the 21st Century world must understand that the Gentile control over Jerusalem expired in AD 73 during the Yom Kippur War in accordance with Leviticus 25:8-10.
