Pastor Teye Kanor, preaching from Matthew 3:13–17 (Jesus' baptism, where heaven opened) and Acts 10:1–5 (Cornelius, whose prayers and giving opened heaven's response), teaches that an open heaven is not automatic; it must be secured.
When heaven opens over a person's life, two things happen: they begin to hear from God and see what He is doing. But this access comes at a cost: "Freedom is expensive." Prayer is presented not as a religious duty but as evidence of a deeper reality: it shows dependence on God, intimacy with Him, and love for Him. True surrender means giving oneself completely to God.
The sermon closes with three practical keys that secure an open heaven:
Submission and humility — yielding to God's authority
Prayer — staying connected and dependent on Him
Giving — a tangible expression of surrender
The core message: an open heaven is available, but it is accessed through a lifestyle of humility, prayer, and generosity, not by passive waiting.
