“Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.” So Abram…built an altar to the LORD.
Genesis 13:17–18, NIV

Abraham and his nephew Lot had such great herds and flocks that the land couldn’t support them both. Abraham allowed Lot to take the best land, with plenty of springs and lush pastures, and Abraham ended up with dry land that was not nearly as desirable. So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord. He didn’t have the land yet, but he thanked God that what He promised was on the way. He knew the power of an altar. God has whispered promises in your spirit that may seem impossible. Now do your part and build the altar. Thank God that it’s on the way. Remind Him of His greatness. Go back over the times when God opened a door you couldn’t open or prospered you despite all the odds. When you look back at the altars you’ve built and thank God for what He’s done, that’s fuel for your faith. That makes it easier to build those altars looking ahead, thanking God for what He’s about to do. Let your joy be full in the Lord.

Be happy [in your faith] and rejoice and be glad-hearted continually (always).
1 Thessalonians 5:16, AMPC

The apostle Paul says we should be glad-hearted, always happy in the faith. He didn’t say anything about our circumstances. He says to be happy whether people treat you right or not, whether your plans work out or not, whether you have many disappointments or none. He was saying to get in a habit of thinking joyful thoughts. Don’t let the negative circumstances talk you out of living happy. But you have to give yourself permission to be happy. Sometimes we’ve bought into the lie that we’re not supposed to be happy. We’ve been through too much and have made too many mistakes. If we’re happy, we think that other people may not understand. But God created you to enjoy your life, to laugh and smile. Happiness starts inside. Give God something to work with. If you want to live happier and healthier, every morning you need to say to yourself, “I’m blessed. I’m grateful. I will be happy.” You can’t receive happiness if you’re thinking sadness. Joy is coming every morning. You will live happier if you start thinking happier. Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.

May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him.
Hebrews 13:21, NLT

There’s a plant called the Chinese bamboo. For the first four years, it barely grows above ground. But underground, it’s developing a massive root system. In the fifth year, the plant will take off and shoot up to as high as eighty feet in the air. What makes the fifth year possible is the four years of preparation. Perhaps you’re frustrated because you’re being your best, but you don’t see any signs of increase—the business isn’t growing, you’re not getting any good breaks, you’re marriage hasn’t improved. The problem is that we want fifth-year results without having to go through the four years of preparation that develop our character and prove to God that we’ll be faithful. Don’t be discouraged. What you can’t see is that God is doing a work in you. Your roots are going down deeper. At the right time, when God knows you’re ready, you’re going to come into your fifth year when you suddenly shoot up—suddenly you come out of debt, suddenly you meet the right person, suddenly your health improves, suddenly your career takes off. Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.

While he was still talking to her, messengers arrived from Jairus’s home with the news that it was too late—his daughter was dead and there was no point in Jesus’ coming now. But Jesus ignored their comments and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just trust me.”
Mark 5:35–36, TLB

Jesus told Jairus that He was going to go to his house to pray for his daughter who was very sick, but Jesus got delayed. When He heard the negative report that the girl had died, He didn’t pay any attention to it. He didn’t dwell on it. He didn’t let the doubt and negativity get in His spirit. Rather, He went and raised the little girl from the dead. When you’re believing for your healing, believing for a promise from God, be selective what you dwell on and who you spend time with. There are going to be plenty of naysayers and doubters. They are dream stealers, people who will tell you all the reasons it’s not going to work out. “My cousin died of what you have.” Let that go in one ear and out the other. When you’re fighting a battle, you don’t need to be around negative, defeated, “can’t do it” people. That’s going to talk you out of it. You need dream releasers, people who encourage you, believe with you, and build up your faith, not tear it down. Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.

‘So if the Son makes you free, then you are unquestionably free.’
John 8:36, AMP

We all have things that come against us and try to keep us from our destiny. Research shows that what we struggle with might not have started with us. For complex reasons, issues such as depression, anger, addictions, and divorce often show a pattern from generation to generation. These traits can be passed down from our parents. The good news is that what you’re dealing with may not have started with you, but it can stop with you. God wants to give you rest from those enemies. He wants to put an end to what’s limiting you. But as long as we accept dysfunction as the norm, it will never change. If you see addiction, depression, or lack and struggle as your lot in life, you’ll not only get stuck where you are, but you can pass it on to the next generation. The Son of God died to set you free. Be the one to rise up and say, “I am a child of God. I am not a slave to anything. This ends with me. I am free indeed.” Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.

Devotion

When Mordecai left the king’s presence, he was wearing royal garments of blue and white, a large crown of gold and a purple robe of fine linen.
Esther 8:15, NIV

In the book of Esther, an official named Haman occupied a very influential position with the king of Persia. He convinced the king to issue a decree that on a certain date all the Jews throughout the kingdom should be killed, and he so hated Mordecai, the cousin of Queen Esther, that on the following day he was going to have Mordecai executed. Yet in one day, Haman was exposed for his evil and killed, the decree was overruled, and Mordecai was put in Haman’s position. You may be in a difficult situation—people are coming against you, your finances don’t look good, there’s trouble in a relationship. You could be upset and worried, but stay in peace. Because you honor God, He’s fighting your battles. Keep doing the right thing. Don’t take matters into your own hands. Let God be your vindicator, and in His time, the enemies you see today you will see no more. What was meant for your harm will be turned to your advantage. Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.

Miriam and Aaron talked against Moses behind his back because of his Cush*te wife (he had married a Cush*te woman). They said, “Is it only through Moses that God speaks? Doesn’t he also speak through us?” God overheard their talk.
Numbers 12:1-2 MSG

Moses’ sister and brother, Miriam and Aaron, began to talk against Moses because he married a woman from a different nationality. They were trying to make him look bad and questioning his leadership. Notice that when people are talking about you, God hears it. He’s your defender, and He’s never lost a case. It goes on to say this angered the Lord, and He dealt with them because they had spoken against the reputation of one of His children. God takes it seriously when someone tries to discredit you, belittle you, or make you look bad. You don’t have to get upset. God is listening. He knows how to change their mind. Sometimes He’ll cause them to be quiet; other times He’ll let them keep talking and just keep promoting you. The more they talk, the higher you’ll go. They think they’re hurting you, but they’re doing you a favor. God is paying you back by taking you to new levels. Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.

Devotion

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will...”
Romans 12:2, NIV

In the original Bible language, the word “transform” is “metamorpho.” It’s where we get our word “metamorphose.” When a caterpillar changes from a little worm-like larva into a beautiful butterfly, it is called metamorphosis. The caterpillar starts out as possibly one of the most unattractive insects. It’s very plain, nothing special about it. But God destined the caterpillar to go through a transformation. It goes from being one of the most ordinary creatures to one of the most beautiful, colorful and graceful. Instead of having to crawl on the ground, it can now fly to wherever it wants to go. Paul is saying that if you’ll get your thoughts going in the right direction and not dwell on negative, condemning, “not able to” thoughts, and program your mind with what God says about you, then a transformation will take place. The only way to release your butterfly is to get your thinking in line with God’s Word. If you will keep renewing your mind and agreeing with what God says about you, it’s just a matter of time before that transformed person comes out. When your thoughts are better, your life will be better. Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.

Devotion

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”
Acts 8:26, NIV

Philip was having great success preaching the gospel in Samaria. It must not have made sense when an angel told him to go out to that desert road, but there was a man, the treasurer of Ethiopia, traveling by there in a chariot who was reading the book of Isaiah. When Philip explained to him that Isaiah was talking about how Jesus came as the Savior, the man believed, was baptized, and had his life changed forever. Like this man, because you honor God, right now there’s a Philip chasing your chariot. There are blessings that God has ordained to track you down, people who will use their influence, their knowledge, and their experience to push you forward. When you take time to put God first, to go to the house of the Lord, don’t be surprised if on your way home, if sometime this week, sometime this month, Philip shows up—something unusual happens, an unexpected blessing. It’s the hand of God. Let your joy be full in the Lord. Remain blessed.
