MRS. MERCY DOGBEY, A BELOVED CHURCH MEMBER LAID TO REST AFTER FAREWELL SERVICE AT ADENTA NEW-SITE
A solemn atmosphere filled the Adenta New-Site yesterday as family, friends, and members of The Church of Pentecost gathered to bid farewell to the late Mrs. Mercy Afi Dogbey, a dedicated member of the Adenta Ewe Assembly.
The funeral service, held at her residence, was marked by heartfelt tributes, soul-lifting songs of worship, and reflections on a life lived in unwavering service to God and community. The tribute on behalf of the church was read by Deacon Divine Mensah Vadze, capturing the deep affection and respect Mrs. Dogbey earned within the congregation.
The sermon for the occasion was delivered by Elder John Baba, who spoke on the theme, “What Next?” In his message, he admonished all gathered to seek the kingdom of God while they still have life. He explained that the question “What next?” reflects the reality of life after death, emphasizing the need for everyone to give their lives to Jesus Christ and live a godly life at all times. The message served as both a tribute and a spiritual wake-up call.
Following the service, her body was transported to her hometown, Dabala in the Volta Region, where she was laid to rest.
Mrs. Dogbey died on Saturday, March 22, 2025. She was baptized into The Church of Pentecost on June 15, 1996, at the Central Assembly in Adenta. When the Ewe Assembly was established in 2004, she was among the first to join and support the new congregation. She remained a dependable and active member until her passing.
In the church’s tribute, Mrs. Dogbey was described as a gentle, loving, and prayerful woman who was deeply involved in church activities. “Whether it was in prayer meetings, Bible studies, or communal work, Mrs. Mercy Dogbey was ever present, and her devotion never wavered,” the statement said.
Her warm smile, calm demeanor, and thoughtful contributions to Bible studies made her beloved among members young and old. Even during her illness, the church rallied around her in prayer and support, hopeful for her recovery.
The service was attended by several notable officers of the church, including Elder Bright Kwami Nani, the Presiding Elder of the Ewe Assembly; Elder Samuel Gyimah, Adenta District Secretary of The Church of Pentecost; Elder Emmanuel Cudjoe Adzigblie, former Presiding Elder of the Ewe Assembly; Elder David Tornyo, Acting Local Secretary of the Ewe Assembly; Elder John Baba; Elder Nelson Doe; and many other officers and members.
Her death, though a painful loss to many, is seen by the church as a transition into eternal rest. “We are assured that she is resting in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ,” the tribute noted.
As she was laid to rest in Dabala, her memory remains etched in the hearts of those she touched.
