Psalm 84:10
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Lord, even a shadow of your presence is far greater than any other company. A woman, seeking to be healed, merely touched Jesus' clothes - and was healed. And yet, Lord, You have promised us so much more than to guard an entrance to the temple of God, or spending a day in your courts. You Lord have promised us eternal life with you, in a perfectly loving relationship with the Trinity. We cannot now comprehend the majesty or magnitude that you have promised Lord God. May your goodness and mercy find us each day of our lives. Amen.

Psalm 119:41-43
May I experience your loyal love, O Lord, and your deliverance, as you promised. Then I will have a reply for the one who insults me, for I trust in your word. Do not completely deprive me of a truthful testimony, for I await your justice.

Some people have never experienced "unfailing love". (NIV, NLT) The NKJV and KJV says, "Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord". This is an unyielding love; the kind that is not damaged or deceived by corruption or mistakes. It had to be the Lord reaching through our sin to save us, because we were powerless to save ourselves. Out of His love for us, He set in motion a grand love story culminating in Jesus Christ's sacrifice for us all. Take courage and be replenished: we hope in a God who's merciful love is unfailing and alive today, and forever.

Psalm 119:9-12
How can a young person maintain a pure life? By guarding it according to your instructions! With all my heart I seek you. Do not allow me to stray from your commands! In my heart I store up your words, so I might not sin against you. You deserve praise, O Lord! Teach me your statutes!

The verse starts out for the "young", yet the heart of the message holds true for us all: live according to God's word. How is it that we "hide God's word in our hearts"? Remember that God's Word lives within us via the Holy Spirit, who convicts and teaches our hearts. Memorize scripture and pray about the meaning of scriptures. Look for opportunities to serve in your local communities, or around the globe. Create opportunity in your life to experience God. The more you experience God, the stronger His word is in your heart because you have become a witness

Romans 3:21-24
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God (although it is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed— namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Throughout the Old Testament, God was made known primarily through the "law of righteousness". Yet now, God has been made known apart from that law, and that comes freely by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The NKJV and KJV says, "being witnessed by the law and the prophets". The law that is insufficient by itself to save testifies about Jesus, the Messiah, who is sufficient and has offered salvation to all. It is His righteousness that qualifies us to be in relationship with God; and that is reckoned to us by grace through faith in Him.

Psalm 119:89-90
O Lord, your instructions endure; they stand secure in heaven. You demonstrate your faithfulness to all generations. You established the earth and it stood firm.

God has had lots of practice at being faithful, and He has never fallen short. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit exist in constant relationship with one another. God is worthy, and in His grace and mercy has even proven Himself worthy to us across generations because it is His great delight to reveal Himself to us. Through the seal of the Holy Spirit, we have been grafted into this love relationship and become evidence of God's faithfulness; witnesses to testify to His goodness.

Luke 1:76-79
And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death,to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

Here we have the second part of Zechariah's prophecy. The first part of the prophecy was all about the coming Messiah, Jesus. This part is all about Zechariah's son John, who will prepare the hearts of Israel for the coming of Christ. Everything Zechariah prophesies reflects what Gabriel had foretold to him initially. These are also the powerful words of a father (both God and Zechariah via the Holy Spirit) being spoken into a son's life. I venture that this experience was quite beautiful for Zechariah, being used by God to speak truth about his son John, and God's Son Jesus.

Luke 1:68-75
“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us— to show mercy to our ancestors and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

John the Baptist has just been born and Zechariah confirms the baby's name by writing "His name is John" on a tablet. Zechariah was silenced by the angel Gabriel from the announcement of John's birth until right now, when God chooses to fill Zechariah with the Holy Spirit to prophesy about Christ's coming. Through this time of silence, God has prepared a powerful purpose for Zechariah's returned voice. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose". (Romans 8:28 NIV)

Luke 1:18-22
Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.” Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple. When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

A few days ago, we mentioned Zechariah receiving the promise that his wife would bear a son, and that son would be John the Baptist. This is much like Abram's situation in Genesis, yet unlike Zechariah, Abram responds with belief: "Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness". (Genesis 15:6) When God proposes the impossible, take courage and believe. The angel Gabriel, in response to Zechariah's disbelief, makes him silent for a time. I'm sure this experience served as a future reminder to Zechariah that anything is possible with God.

Micah 5:4
He will assume his post and shepherd the people by the Lord’s strength, by the sovereign authority of the Lord his God. They will live securely, for at that time he will be honored even in the distant regions of the earth.

Again Micah offers us more of the prophetic surrounding the one who is to come. Jesus is a shepherd, and we are His flock. Majesty is defined as "supreme greatness or authority; sovereignty". Another definition of majesty actually uses Jesus in the definition, "Christ in Majesty, a representation of Christ as ruler of the universe".
The NKJV and KJV say that the shepherd "feeds" in the strength of the Lord. As we follow Jesus Christ and trust Him with the direction of our lives, we are fed. We are fed true life by the author of life; who is with us always as our shepherd.

1 Samuel 8:4-8
So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.

Israel does not recognize that God Himself is their true leader. Because of that partial blindness they become concerned about who leadership will pass to after Samuel's death. Samuel is a prophet who has served the Lord faithfully since his birth. Samuel is witnessing what God has already witnessed time and time again; that is Israel, as a nation, rejecting God. Appointing a King would set Israel in a different direction of governance and change things financially - and for all families in Israel. (Samuel 8:10-18)

Micah 2:12-13
“I will surely gather all of you, Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people. The One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their King will pass through before them, the Lord at their head.”

There is a promise to Israel that some of them will be gathered..."a remnant". "The One who breaks open the way" (NIV) is Jesus Christ. He is their King, just as He is the King of the Gentiles. This reinforces that the only way to God the Father or to heaven is through faith in Jesus Christ, and this applies to Israel as well. This is a prophecy about Jesus - the King who will come to save all. The Old Testament covenant paves the way to Christ! Obedience to God the Father is believing in God the Son.

Psalm 119:169-172
May my cry come before you, Lord; give me understanding according to your word. May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise. May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees. May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.

Today, let these verses be your prayer. Our God is present in our lives and has made His home with those who believe in Christ. We were built to praise Him, to come to God and lay our burdens, our troubles, our hopes and dreams; everything we are and need at the throne of grace. Best of all - our God hears us and responds in a way that is for us, and not against us. Remain in the love of Christ! (John 15:9-10)
