Title: NO POWER

31st July 2018

READ: Daniel 5:1-8, 13-30

“Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.” - Habbakuk 2:19

You are deceived and proud when you think that the only important thing in this world is money. Many people consider their power to come from the money they have. I once met a rich young man who was full of insults for God and for pastors. One day, after a short interaction with a pastor, he started shouting at the pastor. He shouted, “What do you have?” He continued shouting, “I have everything. What do you have that I do not have? I have everything!”

I listened as this man hurled insults at the pastor, all the while shouting, “I have everything, what do you have?” Somehow, he calculated his worth by what he had. Just like Belshazzar, he praised the gods of gold, of silver, of wood and of stone. In other words he had confidence in gold, in silver and in his house of stone and wood. You are puffed up like Belshazzar when you think that God is not important and that the only things that are important are gold, silver and wood.

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. - Daniel 5: 4

Dear friend, is that what your confidence lies in? Gold, silver, brass, iron, wood and stone? Are you just like Belshazzar? You are puffed up when your confidence is in your money. It will rot before your eyes and its power to save you will not work.

Title: MIND NOT!

22nd June 2018

READ: 1 Samuel 17:20-53

“Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.” - Romans 12:6

If you are very conscious of good and bad neighbourhoods, you will avoid evangelism in the poor communities. What a poor minister of the Gospel you will be because you avoided areas with poor people! Minding high things is to be conscious of where a person lives and the type of house a person lives in. If you judge people by the type of house they have, you will eliminate most of the people God has sent to you. Poor people do not own nice houses. If you cannot go to lowly houses you are cut off from the important people of your ministry.

Minding high things is to be conscious of people’s education in a wrong way. “Did you go to this school?” they ask. “Oh, if you did not go to this or that school you are not my type of person.” A soul is a soul and is precious to God!

If you are too conscious of a person’s age you are minding high things. God uses young people as well. They are very important for the ministry. You will miss the most anointed people if you are only looking for people of a certain age.

Our earthly world has divided people into colour groupings. In South Africa, people were once categorised as white, coloured, Indian and black. How unfortunate! Some colours were supposed to be superior to others. If you become colour conscious, you are minding high things. If you are conscious of colour, you will have a very limited ministry. Minding high things is a dangerous thing. It limits the ministry and downsizes the harvest field!

READ: 2 Samuel 6:12-23

“And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me…to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.“ - 2 Samuel 6:21

King David had won great victories in various battles. But his wife, Michal was not impressed by what impressed outsiders. She knew David too well to be taken in by the crowds that sang his praises. She knew David had killed Goliath, but it did not matter. She knew David was anointed but she was not impressed. All she thought of was how David was undressed in front of the giggling girls of the congregation.

But David responded decisively. He disagreed with Michal. “I was not displaying in front of those church girls! I refuse to accept that comment! I cannot accept this kind of talk in my house! Do not redescribe my worship as un******ng in front of little girls who are enamoured with me! My mind was on God and is still on God!” And that was the end of Michal!

And that would also be the end of many wives of ministers of the Gospel if the ministers would respond that decisively to accusations.

David was so angry that he said he would continue dancing and playing before the Lord: “I will do more and I will go as far as I want to!” He said, “I have my freedom to serve God and I refuse to be controlled by you. You are not God and I will not obey you! I will obey God whom I love!” Can you imagine if David had been restrained in his worship? What would have happened if he had followed the warped and narrow-minded prescriptions of Michal?

Have a fruitful week!!

Title: SINGLE AIM

4th June 2018

READ: Acts 3:18-26

“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” - 1 Corinthians 2:2

Selection of the aim and maintenance of your aim is the number one principle of war! You must select your aim and keep at it. You must direct your efforts towards your objective. A successful military operation is aimed at an objective that can be achieved. War is aimed at destroying the enemy’s ability and will to fight!

The British military teaches that a single, unambiguous aim is the keystone of successful military operations. The American military calls this principle Objective. They are taught to direct every military operation toward a clearly defined, decisive and attainable objective. The Russian Armed Forces’ doctrine calls this principle steadfastness. Subordinate commanders are to carry out the mission in the spirit and the letter of the plan.

The real aim of the church is: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Our aim has been selected by the Lord Jesus. Today, the church has largely set aside its one and only aim to win the lost souls of this world for Jesus Christ. Very few ministers of the gospel have the aim of only preaching Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The selected aim of the backslidden Christian church is to have a happy marriage, a successful career, lots of money and breakthroughs. When you shift away from your selected aim, you start to lose the war for the souls and lives of people. Today, most of the church has set aside its original aim and Christianity is no more the fastest growing religion in the world.

Title: TRICKS

3rd June 2018

READ: Zechariah 3:1-5

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” - Luke 10:19

After being accused and degraded, many develop a low esteem and actually begin to do the things the accusers expect of them. Satan’s clever plan now begins to work. You find yourself doing the evil that was spoken about you. This is why experienced people do not even bother to listen to certain accusations. It is not that they are arrogant but these things tend to push you towards an intended target.

I remember counselling a pastor who was married to an accusatory and insecure woman. This pastor told me tearfully how his wife constantly suspected him of having affairs with ladies in the church. He said to me, “I love my wife and I am not having an affair with anyone.” For years, their marriage continued swinging through the highs and the lows created by one accusation after another.

The accuser actually wishes that the accusations come true so that she would be proved right in the eyes of the people she has made her claims to. Eventually, after many years, this pastor did end up having a sexual encounter with a lady who was not even one of the suspected persons.

Naturally, this pastor was devastated and his ministry was greatly affected. I felt sorry for this minister because he had fallen prey to a clever, sustained, long-term strategy of the devil. Dear friend, watch out for accusations. The Scripture teaches that accusations weaken you and take away your power. It is time to silence the accuser. No one can flourish in the presence of accusers.
