GROUP DISCUSSION ON TITHES
Introduction:
The Lord owns the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live in it. -Psalms 24:1
Why this topic for discussion?
God who created the world and everything including human beings has revealed himself to man through his Word. As parents has vision for their wards, so does God has a vision for his people to prosper them (Believers). (Jeremiah 29:10-11) He does so through His ordained principles; and one of those principles is, paying tithe faithfully to Him. Failure to pay is taking as gross disobedient.
Scripture Readings: Deuteronomy 15:4-6, Proverbs 10:22
In simple term what is the definition of tithe? (Giving one tenth of your income to God)
What is the purpose of tithes? (To discuss)- (Numbers 18:20-32)
In the Old Testament - The Lord has reserved it to Himself to be used for religious purposes. In the Old Testament tithes and offerings were the only means by which the Priests lived. They had no inheritance of their own.
In the New Testament - (1 Corinthians 9:1-14) in a similar way God has sanctioned that the church should live and function by means of tithes and offerings. It is not to be used for any other purpose, but solely for the support of the ministry.
How do you use your money as Christian?
Is tithe relevant in our time?
How do you tithe? (Do you tithe faithfully?)
As a salary worker?
As a farmer?
As a business man or woman?
Any means of living as human being?
What are some of the causes that prevent people from tithing faithfully?
Does God still punish people for not tithing at all, or for not tithing faithfully?
What are some of the benefits or blessings in tithing faithfully?
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE FAILS TO PAY TITHE FAITHFULLY?
Failure to bring tithes into the Lord’s treasury amounts to ROBBERY. It is selfishness, because the person holds back what belongs to God. This holds back God’s blessing on the individual and puts a person under a cause. Mal 3:7-10
WHY SHOULD EVERY CHRISTIAN TITHE TODAY
Jesus approved of tithing did not condemn tithes; rather, he approved of it and taught that Christians should give more than tithes. Matthew 23:23
It is Scriptural and a covenant between God and his people
Every Christian is a steward of God’s money – Psalm 24:1
Tithing will help fulfill the great commission –Matthew 28:18
There are blessing attached to tithing- Mal. 3:10-12
God reward our faithfulness –
1. God says He will open the windows of heaven and pour down blessings upon us. Mal 3:10, Deuteronomy 11:13-15.
God prevents our enemies from harming us. Malachi 3:11
God prevents pests from devouring our crops.
These destroying elements represent the satanic forces that come up against us. God says He will rebuke them.
