James urges the people (oppressed Christians) to be patient as they wait for the coming of the Lord. In the previous verse, he pointed to the example of farmers.
Farmers wait through the long burdensome growing seasons for their crops to finally become ready to harvest. James presses on them to be like these farmers for the harvest is close(the coming is near).
You may be full of doubts one day, your joys may sink low. You may even doubt whether you are the Lord’s, but if you have rested in the name of Jesus, if by the grace of God you are what you are, if he is all your salvation, and all your desire, — have patience; have patience, for the rewards of your labour will surely come in His time. James’s instructions for the oppressed Christians is not to waver when they’re so close to receiving God’s promise : WE CANNOT CONTROL THE TIMING OF THE DAY OF THE LORD, HOWEVER, WE CAN CONTROL HOW WE RESPOND TO WAITING. Isaiah 40:30 says but they that wait up the Lord shall renew their strength. Waiting in God means total dependence on Him to be the captain of affairs.
May God give us the ability to stand strong even when circumstances have not changed yet Amen😇
