Pope Leo XIV has begun a 10-day papal visit to four African countries from April 13–23. The journey will take him to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea, with stops in 11 cities across the continent.

His visit to Algeria, marking the first time a pope has visited the country, Africa’s largest nation where Islam is the state religion—signals the importance of interfaith dialogue. During his stay, he is expected to visit the Great Mosque of Algiers, one of the largest mosques in the world.

In Cameroon, the Pope plans to visit an orphanage and a hospital, emphasizing care for the vulnerable. In Angola, a record-breaking rosary is expected at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Conception of Muxima, a major Marian pilgrimage site in the Diocese of Viana.

In Equatorial Guinea, the Pope is scheduled to visit Bata Prison, a facility that has faced international criticism for its conditions, underscoring his concern for prisoners and human rights.

Today, on Divine Mercy Sunday, the Cathedral was filled with worshippers. As the readings reminded us, “Blessed are those who have not seen, yet believe.”

In his homily, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Wilson, the Cathedral Administrator, shared a message of reassurance and faith. He reflected on Jesus’ words to the disciples, “Peace be with you,” as a reminder that Christ’s peace is with us and that we need not be afraid.

He also called us to remain faithful to the teachings of the Apostles, living in brotherhood, coming together as one family at Mass to break bread, and committing ourselves to prayer.

At the end of the Mass, we recessed slowly to the Divine Mercy statue outside the church, praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet together. One by one, we received the blessings of , each moment marked by quiet reflection and grace.

In the second reading Peter reminds us that trials, produces genuineness of our faith.

The silence of is not empty. It speaks. It reveals the depth of Christ’s sacrifice and the weight of our sin.

Today, let us embrace the silence, for sometimes the most powerful prayers are those whispered in the stillness of the heart.

"The solemnness of trumps it all. It’s the only day of the year when any Catholic church feels like it’s dead. Statues are covered in cloth. Holy water fonts are dry. The altar is bare. The tabernacle is empty. Someone is missing — someone we all take for granted because on any other day of the year we can walk in that sanctuary, genuflect, and acknowledge his actual physical presence. He’s there. But on Good Friday, he’s not. We feel empty. We, too, feel abandoned"~ Paul McKibben. Read the full article "The sounds of Good Friday"
