MENTORSHIP(part 7)

THE Mentor/Mentee Relationship:
Mentorship establishes a special relationship between the mentor and the mentee. This relationship is more of master/servant kind of relationship. Joshua 1:1- The word minister in that verse means servant.
Again, it is a father/son kind of relationship-Elisha cried, when Elijah was carried away, my father, my father.......2 Kings 2:12.
These types of relationships are deeper than teacher/student kind of relationship in which the only focus is the impartation and acquisition of knowledge.
The mentor is, as it were, a father to the mentee. In mentorship, traits of the mentor are seen (replicate) in the mentee.
The Disciples were called christians the first time because, the people could see the image of Christ in them. Acts 11:26: Christians: Christ-like.
It was said of Elisha, the spirit of Elijah is come upon him. 2 Kings 2:15.
The mentee imbibe the spirit of grace on the mentor to be able to do what the mentor does, even more. Mentoring is a serious endeavor that requires determination, focus and burning desire.
When Elisha requested for a double portion of his mentor's spirit, Elijah told him that, it is a hard thing to do! However, if he is focused he will get what he is asking for (paraphrase). 2 Kings 2:9-10.

MENTORSHIP(part 6)

Impartation: Is the transfer of spirit from one vessel to another.
God endows man with a unique spirit of grace for him to do whatever he has been assigned to fulfill on earth. Exodus 31:1-6.
What the spirit empowers them to do is not limited to the pulpit/preaching. But also, the spirit empowers them to work in other roles as seen in Exodus 31:1-6.
Moses was endowed to lead, as well as, minister in the Temple
David received the spiritual empowerment for kingship and when he attempted to do the work of the church (Temple building) he was forbidden by God.
The spirit so identifies with the individual upon whom he rest that, the spirit is called by their respective names.
You hear of the spirit of Elijah. 2 Kings 2:15.
Revelation 22:6 talks about the spirit of the prophets.
1 Corinthians 14:32 says the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. Please, get this clear that the prophet don't have control over the Holy Spirit. As many as are led by the Holy Spirit......
So, the spirit of the prophet can't mean the Holy Spirit.
It's the spirit in these mentors that enables them to do the amazing things they do.
This spirit of grace can be imparted or transferred from a carrier to a follower.
Joshua received the spirit from Moses Deuteronomy 34:9
Elisha asked and received the spirit that worked through Elijah.
God took the spirit on Moses and placed on seventy elders. Numbers 11:25.
This is the spirit the mentee received by impartation.
The spirit is the qualifier for ones assigned role, whatever it is. Being 'spiritual' or 'secular'!
When God, in His mercy, places you under someone to learn, please endeavor to receive the spirit and not the material things he she may have.

THE PROCESSES OF MENTORSHIP. (Part 4)

This lesson is to help us understand what goes on in mentorship.
1. Coaching: In coaching, the mentor/teacher guides the mentee/student, through teachings and by example, how to conduct himself/herself, and work to achieve results. Psalm 32:8-9. The mentor should make sufficient time for this responsibility and discharge it wholeheartedly. A great leader is the one who has prepared a substitute like himself or better than himself to take over from him. Jesus said, the works I do you will do, and even greater works than these you will do because, I go to the Father. In other words, He is saying that when I'm done with my assignment and left, you'll be capable to do what I have done, and even better. Jesus is the greatest leader that ever lived.
Moses raised Joshua to complete the assignment he couldn't finished. Elijah equipped Elisha to perform twice the miracles he did. Mentors should understand that, they will not be there forever.
2. Learning: The mentee/student should be willing to submit to the tutorship of their mentors and learn. Jesus said learn of me for I am meek......
Yes, the mentee may be highly intellectual. However there is something unique you need to learn in the new phase of your life. For instance, you may be a PHD holder in a secular discipline and have received a call into the christian ministry, you'll need someone to mentor you afresh. As was in the case of Paul.
3. Impartation: This is the most important aspect on mentorship. This is when the spirit of grace working in the mentor is transfered to the mentee. All the coaching, learning, etc. is of little importance without the transfer of the spirit.
Moses laid his hand upon Joshua at the end of his ministry, and it was said that Joshua was filled with wisdom because of that single act.
Elijah asked Elisha, at the end of his ministry, what should I do for you? And Jesus, breathed on His disciples to receive the Spirit after His resurrection.
Notice that, all this impartation were done at the end of the mentors' ministries!
Please, this experience is different from the general infilling of the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 1:6-7.

MENTORSHIP(part 3)

John the Baptist was in the wilderness till the time of his showing forth to the world.
Again, in a world of monopoly, there are those who are afraid their mentees may take over the stage and they being relegated to the background. Pride and power-drunk!
Last in my write-up, mentorship is becoming unpopular because of ingratitude of some mentees. People have sacrificed for others to rise, only to be rewarded with evil coin. The mentees rise and forget to acknowledge those who brought them up.
Look at the manner some of our past political leaders are treated in the media today! Men and women who were once hailed as Divine. It's sad!
Nonetheless, proper mentorship is a prerequisite for spiritual, social and developmental progression.
Mentors may not look like what you want but carries what you need. 2 Corinthians 5:10.
Don't find faults with your mentor. DON'T DO IT! DON'T LET ANY BODY DECEIVE YOU INGO THIS ERROR, PLEASE!
For, we all will need somebody to lean on.

MENTORSHIP(part 2)

With mentorship, you draw from the inner recesses of the mentor. Isaac told Esau prepare for me the meal I like, so that after eating my *SOUL* will bless you. There is something that moves a man's soul. Jesus said to the crowd, WHO TOUCH ME? It was not a mere physical touch because, there were a lot of people touching him physically at the time.
Please, this is a mystery you need to keep and cherish always. Don't follow someone and just be expecting money or some material things. That may not be the reason God connected you to him/her.
You need to draw from his spirit which may be imparted to you by just A WORD. Yes, a word. Ezekiel 2:2 "And the Spirit entered into me when he spoke to me".
Acts 10:44;
John 6:63"The words I speak to you they are spirits and life".
Words from the spirit of a mentor are like deep flood of waters.
If it's positive it's a blessing. If it's negative, it becomes a curse.
Elisha told his mentee when he lied to him, the leprosy of Naaman has come upon you. The Bible says, instantly the guy became leprous. Be careful! If you don't believe in a man's unction don't follow him.
No one rises without being mentored.
✓Jesus needed the platform of the ministry of John the Baptist;
√ Moses needed his father-in-Law, Jethro
✓ Joshua needed Moses
✓ Paul needed Barnabas, etc.
However, in a world of "fast things", is only few that has the humility and patience to submit and wait for their time to be introduced to the world, as it were.
Jesus was pushed to manifest Himself to the world but refused and said my time is not yet. John 7:1-4.

MENTORSHIP (part 1)

Mentorship is the process of producing a new and matured generation to take over from the older generation. The Trainer is called the mentor and the follower is called the mentee. The mentor, with time has acquired some qualities that the mentee will need to build on. These qualities may include; maturity, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, skills, connections, wealth, name, etc.
Through Mentorship, the mentor manages to transfer these endowed qualities to the young follower, the mentee.
The mentee should follow with the qualities of humility, loyalty, respect, as well as the willingness to submit, learn and receive from the trainer.
° Let me say here that, following does not result in automatic transfer of the qualities. Elisha was endowed with a double measure of Elijah's grace but had to go to his grave with it because, his follower didn't have the qualities to draw on his grace. Elisha died with the double measure of Elijah's anointing.
Mentorship is more than just learning from someone.
