A person's name reveals or represents his purpose/calling and character. Concerning Jesus, the Bible records that His name was given even before His birth. In other words, His purpose or calling was revealed even before He was born. What was/is that purpose?

"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call his name Jesus: for he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21, NKJV)

From the Scripture above, we know that the primary purpose of Jesus is "salvation of people from their sins". He came to save us. With that in mind, let's read John 1:12.

"But as many as received him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believed in His name." (John 1:12, NKJV)

You have to receive Jesus and believe in His name in order to be saved from your sins. Doing that also gives you the right to become a child of God. As a child of God, you are no longer under the authority of Satan and his army of demons. You are God's property.

What does believing in the name of Jesus entail? Believing in Jesus means accepting or trusting Him as your Saviour, which is His purpose or calling. It means trusting Him as being able to save you from your sins. Trusting His Authority and Person. It goes beyond mental assent to the Scriptures.

You accept what the Bible says about Jesus as the absolute truth, and commit your life to Him as the ONLY One who can save you from your sins and also give you eternal life.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner who is in need of salvation. I believe that you died for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. Today, I accept you as my Saviour. Come into my life and be my Lord. Thank you for answering my prayer. Amen!

Are you a Noble Christian?

Acts 17:11 says, "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

This verse highlights the commendable attitude of the Bereans, who were more noble than the Thessalonians.

The Bereans were people who hungered and thirsted for the Word of God. They didn't just receive the message of Paul and Silas with an open heart, but they also searched the scriptures daily to verify the truth.

The Greek word for "noble" here means well-born or noble-minded. The Bereans were noble-minded because they sought to know the truth, not just follow a man or a doctrine.

The Thessalonians, on the other hand, were easily swayed by emotions and external influences. They received the word with enthusiasm, but didn't ground themselves in the scriptures, making them vulnerable to false teachings.

The Bereans' approach to scripture was marked by diligence and eagerness. They didn't just read the scriptures once and forget, but they searched them daily, seeking to understand and apply God's Word.

The phrase "readiness of mind" means eagerness or willingness. The Bereans were eager to receive and apply God's Word, demonstrating their love for the truth.

Searching the scriptures daily means they didn't just stop at hearing the Word, but they went deeper, studying and meditating on it. This is an example for us to follow, as we seek to deepen our understanding of God's Word.

The Bereans also showed a spirit of accountability and discernment. They didn't just take Paul's word for it; they checked the scriptures to verify the teachings, ensuring they aligned with God's Word.

This approach to scripture is a powerful antidote to false teachings and spiritual deception. When we search the scriptures daily, we become equipped to discern truth from error and stand firm in our faith.

Let's emulate the Bereans' noble example, receiving God's Word with eagerness and searching the scriptures daily, that we may be grounded in truth and equipped for every good work.

Jesus Christ offers salvation FREELY to WHOSOEVER believes in Him. Jesus Christ came to die for our sins, He was buried, and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. He has paid the price already so there is hope for you.

Repent of your sins, make a conscious effort to forsake that lifestyle of sin. Believe the truth about Jesus Christ and what He has done for you as revealed in the Bible which is the written Word of God. Receive Him as your Lord and commit to obeying Him.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus,

I come to you just as I am. I acknowledge that I am a sinner who needs salvation. I believe that you died for my sins, You were buried, and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. I confess You as my Lord. I commit to following and obeying You the rest of my life. Thank You for saving me. Amen!

Your name is now written in the book of life. What does that mean? It implies that you are saved from eternal judgment. Hell is no longer for you. You have hope of being with God in heaven. You are now born again!!! Hallelujah 🙌🙌🙌

But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
