DIG ANOTHER WELL

Gen. 26:22a

“And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it.”

Jacob is looking for water for his flock and so he went and dug a well. Some people came and quarreled with him so he left it. He dug a second one and again they quarreled with him over it and he left it. He dug a third one and this time no one came to quarrel with him.

There are people who will quarrel with you over everything that you must have in this life. Their objective is not to have what you want necessarily but to frustrate you till you give up on pursuing what you want.

If nobody quarrels with you then what you are looking is not valuable enough. What is important is to know what you want and focus on getting it. Don’t let their quarrellings stop you. Keep pushing till you get it.

YOU MEANT IT FOR EVIL

Gen. 50:20
“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”

All of us have bad experiences from fellow human beings. For some, those experiences changed the course of our lives forever and the perpetrators who were very intentional about it lied their way out.

Now the tables have turned and here they are at your mercy. What are you going to do especially when revenge is screaming loud on top of her lungs in your mind? It takes a man with a heart of gold to say “ it’s ok.”

Take a second look at yourself. Truth be told, you are here today because of that experience. They meant it for evil and thought that was going to be the end of your world but the invisible hand of God orchestrated events behind the scenes to your advantage and today, here you are. Forgive.

Thursday 18th January,2024

WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE

Act. 1:9
“Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.”

Jesus, the hope of the Disciples, took them to the mountain and whiles talking to them he defied gravity and started going up. He kept going up and they kept looking until He was received into the clouds.

They thought He was going to stay with them but without it word, He was taking up. In that hopeless and helpless situation, they kept looking up just in case.

Looking up is symbolic. It is a posture that says “you are all I have”. No matter what will come your way, never stop looking up to Jesus. Remember, our help comes from above.

HE WILL GO WITH YOU

Deut. 31:6
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Israel is about to enter into the promised land. A land for which they have journeyed for forty years. It was a mixed feeling of anxiety and uncertainty. To make matters worse, the man who has led them all these years is also not going with them. It is against this backdrop that God told Moses to tell them that He will go with them.

If you are anxious about this new year because of world events, I bring that same assurance from His word that the Lord your God will go with you. Fear not.

HAVING DONE ALL, STAND!

2 Chron. 20:13
“Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord.”

Enemies have surrounded you. In fear you called for a fasting and prayer meeting. Having said the final prayer, was it not time to go home? But nobody moved, why? Because they had expectations.

In teaching about the weapons of our warfare, the instruction was very clear that, “having done all, stand. When confronted with danger, most believers will fast and pray but only a few go on to stand.

Always remember that those who stand still are the ones who see the salvation of the Lord.

TILL YOUR LAND

Prov. 28:19
“He who tills his land will have plenty of bread,But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough!”

Bread is made from wheat flour, which is a processed wheat. The wheat is obtained by planting the seed, the seed is planted in a land that is tilled.

Just as muscles are not built by just one visit to the gym, so is every other thing. Whatever you are trusting God for will only come through a process.

The starting process of your “bread” cannot be sidestepped. It may be long but go for it and you’ll enjoy the end product.

Start tilling your land.

A STEP OF FAITH

Genesis 12:4
“So Abram departed as the lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.”

Abraham gathered all his possessions and the people around him and left as God had told him. He didn’t wait for anything or anybody. He did not even consider the weather if it was right to travel at that time of the season.

What will make you stand out this year is your courage to take that step of faith. God has placed potentially great blessings on our path but for many of us, we are still stuck at the “what if” junction.

Keep moving my friend. You don’t need all the fine details from God before you start. Israel would never have left Egypt if God had given them the fine details about the wilderness.

Take that step today.

Thursday 11th January, 2024.

IT IS TIME TO GET OUT

Gen. 12:1
“Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your familyAnd from your father’s house,To a land that I will show you.”

Living in your country, among your family and in your father’s house is the best place to be on earth. It is the place where the systems are working and everyone feel safe. That is the ideal living.

To leave your family, country and father’s house is venturing into the unknown or taking a risk. Why would I want to do that? It is because life is not just about you. It is about others also. “They are not my responsibility”, you may say. Jesus said, “the poor you’ll have with you always”. Who will take care of them in our society?

Dear friend, what God has prepared for you is not only to be blessed but to make you a channel of blessing to others. That’s the whole point. It is time to Get Out and Get Blessed until You Become A Blessing.

WHAT YOU HAVE IS NOT ENOUGH

2 Kg 4:3
“Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.”

The widow had a jar of oil in her house. That was the basic ingredient she needed to change her financial situation but the oil in the jar can’t get to the market in that state. She needed containers to pour them in. She was asked to go and borrow.

In this life, it is not enough to know how to read and write, that won’t get you a job. You must have a certificate that is acceptable on the job market. Go and take that course.
It is not enough to know how to dress well, you must have a pleasant disposition to get a spouse. If you lack it, go and borrow.
It is not enough to go to church regularly, you must lead that Christlike life for men to see your good works and glorify your father in heaven. If you lack it, go and borrow.

What you have will always not be enough. You can only change you status by “borrowing” from others.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE?

1 Kg. 4:2a
“So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?”

Many Christians, like this widow, go to God daily with requests and expect instant miracles . He is a miracle worker, no doubt, but He does not perform miracles all the time. In some situations, He uses what we have to open doors of opportunity for us to get what we want. This widow went to Elisha praying for divine intervention for her financial crises. In response, she was asked a simple question.

Throughout the scriptures, God dealt with people who had something to offer. Moses had a rod, it was turned into a snake. David was a skillful player of the harp, it brought him to minister to Saul. Peter was a professional fisherman, it turned him into a fisher of men.

If you want a scholarship, a job, a spouse, a car, a house this year, God will answer that request only if you bring the ‘what it takes’ to the table. So what do you have in your house this 2024?
