ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: GALAMSEY
The alarming trend of illegal miners demanding tolerance for their crimes under the guise of 'feeding their families' has emerged. Meanwhile, the glaring ineptitude displayed by government and law enforcement agencies is alarming, as it tolerates and potentially legitimizes this chaos. Restoring sanity will necessitate a messy and challenging journey, one that will inevitably require everyone's involvement - willingly or unwillingly.
The true joke lies not with the general public, but with the government's ineptitude in tackling criminality. Consider the substantial police presence deployed to monitor a peaceful procession. Hopefully, similar resources will be allocated to each village next week to apprehend actual galamsey criminals. It's ironic that we mobilize law enforcement to oversee citizens exercising their democratic rights, while leaving criminals to wreak havoc unchecked. This raises questions about the capability of those seeking to lead us.
The consequences of these harmful actions will soon unfold. Policemen, with families in the affected village, will face personal tragedy as mercury poisoning strikes close to home. Will they continue enforcing the status quo? The prioritization of elections over human life will have dire consequences.
The economic and social fallout is imminent. Are we equipped to address the resulting health crisis? The answer is uncertain. Meanwhile, the state will shoulder the financial burden, leaving citizens to face the devastating aftermath.
Last week, a friend shared a remarkable story from their journey from the countryside to Accra. During a stop, they sought food, with some ordering banku with okro soup and others enjoying fufu with ebunubunu. But the atmosphere shifted when someone jokingly referred to the soup as 'galamsey soup.' The harmless comment sparked an unexpectedly intense reaction, revealing underlying tensions.
The safety of water used in cooking outside our homes is a pressing concern. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee its quality, especially when consuming food at parties, funerals, or street food stalls. Even the police guarding demonstrations may be at risk when quenching their thirst with potentially contaminated water.
Ensuring safe drinking water is crucial in food production, and food businesses must follow strict guidelines to prevent contamination. However, when eating outside, it's difficult to verify if these standards are met.
The government's role in ensuring water safety is critical, particularly in regulating food production and distribution. However, their priorities seem skewed, especially when it comes to protecting the interests of their own children.
It's disheartening to see politicians, once classmates and friends, prioritize power over people's well-being. Their transformation into seemingly uncaring leaders is indeed sad.
It is disheartening to see politicians prioritize power over people's well-being. We must demand better from our leaders and work together to create a culture of life for all Ghanaians. Join the protest, make your voice heard, and serve notice - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
