STUDY OUTCOME:
At the end of the study, we will understand:
1. The meaning and significance of PASSOVER
2. Why God’s people celebrated it
3. Why Jesus is our Passover lamb by whom God saved us also
4. Why we should celebrate our salvation also.
Let’s learn the memory verse for today
MEMORY VERSE - Exodus 12: 13b
“…And when I see the blood, I will pass over you”.
Exodus 12: 13b, Amen.
I believe every one of us is aware of the destruction that the coronavirus is causing lives and nations. Thankfully, we have been given some instructions to follow in order to avoid being infected by the virus.
Can we repeat some of the Dos and Don’ts during these times?
1. Wash your hands regularly with soap under running water for at least 20 seconds
2. Regularly use alcohol-based sanitizers on your hands
3. Avoid shaking hands with people
4. Cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough, and immediately throw it away
5. Sneeze into your elbows
6. Avoid touching your face etc.
I hope we are all following these instructions!!! You would be foolish not to accept the way that would protect you from destruction by the virus.
The Bible tells that the Hebrews faced one terrible night of suffering and destruction, and if they would follow certain instructions, they would be delivered from that which was going to happen and be set free from a cruel king who wanted them for his slaves. It began in Egypt with a message from God to Pharoah.
THE BIBLE STORY AND LIFE APPLICATION
The Israelites were slaves suffering under cruel Pharoah. You and I have never been slaves to a wicked king, but we are slaves in another way. Each of us is born with a “want to” sin that keeps us under Satan’s power.
What is Sin? - Sin is anything you think, say or do that does not please God.
So when you continue to lie to your parents or cheat during tests or say dirty words, you are showing that you are a slave to sin. (Read Hebrews 2:14-15). God hates sin because it keeps you apart from Him. (Read Isaiah 59:2). The punishment for sin is death- the kind that means you will be separated from God forever.
But God wants to free us from the bo***ge of your sins just as he wanted to free the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt.
God gave Moses and Aaron instructions for the Israelites to follow so they would be safe from death:
1. Each family must choose a perfect male lamb-The lamb was a type (or picture) of Jesus Christ. The lamb was to be in its first year and physically perfect, picturing the spiritual perfection of Christ Jesus.
2. They were to kill the lamb and place its blood on the doorsteps and across the top frame
3. The family must stay within the house through the night, eating the roasted lamb with bitter herbs and unleavened bread. The lamb was to be roasted whole without any of its bones broken. This also reflects Jesus’ death as we read in John 19:36.
The Lord brought death to the firstborn of each household of Egypt, while the Israelites stayed in their homes under the protection of the blood.
At midnight, God’s angel killed all the first-born male children in Egypt but not one of the children of Israel was killed. He passed over their houses when He saw the blood and saved them from destruction. But there was a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt but not a dog even growled against any of the people of Israel. God made a distinction between Egypt and Israel. (Exodus 11:6-7).
God loved the Israelites and provided a way for them to escape the death penalty by applying the blood to the door frames. Not only would the blood of the lamb free them from death that night, but it would result in their freedom from slavery.
God loves you too. He created you and He wants you to live with Him in Heaven someday. But God is holy 100% and perfect 100% and He cannot have sin in heaven. That is why He has made a way for you and me to escape the penalty of eternal death and be set free from the bo***ge of the slavery of sin. (Let’s read Rom 6:23). His way to salvation is through the perfect Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Passover lamb who takes away the sin of the world. (John 1:29).
What you need to do is to believe that Jesus died and gave his life’s blood for your sins. He was separated from God so you will never have to be. After he died, he arose on the third day proving that God had accepted his payment for our sin. He is alive in Heaven today and wants to come and live in you.
If you are willing to accept him as your Saviour, pray this prayer with all your heart;
Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Please forgive me of my sins. Come and live in my heart today and be my Lord forever. I thank you. Amen.
In conclusion:
The people of God left with great riches and God gave Moses instructions on how they should celebrate the Passover from year to year to remind them of God’s great deliverance onto them.
We who are also saved must constantly show our appreciation to God for saving us through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.
Stay blessed. We shall come your way next week. God be with you all.
