The Methodist Bishop of Accra Diocese, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey, has advocated the need to adopt a policy of building one pavilion per year for Methodist Societies without a chapel.
According to him, the initiative, which he dubbed, "operation one pavilion, per year" will be aimed at securing parcels of lands for the er****on of pavilions to serve as start-up place of worship for Nursery Societies within the Diocese.
"The support for erecting pavilions for newly scout, nursery societies also comes as a strategic approach to handling the vast [infrastructural] needs of the Diocese," Rt Rev Bortey noted, urging the Accra Diocesan Lay Movement Council to take up the challenge.
The Methodist cleric was speaking at the launch of a pavilion project for the Langma Nursery Society in the New Aplaku Circuit of the Church. The launch, which came-off at a special church service organised at the Bethel Methodist Chapel, New Aplaku on February 11, 2024, was championed by the Accra Diocesan Lay Movement Council.
Explaining the motive behind the initiative, the Accra Diocesan Lay Chairman, Bro Joseph Eduam disclosed that the Council took the decision following a tour of Societies within the New Aplaku Circuit, during last yearβs βEaster With The Lordβ evangelism programme organised by the Diocesan Methodist Youth Fellowship.
According to him, the visit revealed that the Nursery Society lacked a befitting place of worship despite owning half an acre of land, a situation that affects Church attendance and storage of Church materials.
A past Lay Chairman of the Accra Diocese, Bro Joseph K, Addo, led a fundraising exercise that yielded a substantial amount of funds for the commencement of the pavilion project.
A model for the proposed pavilion was unveiled to congregants.
The Service, which was attended by some past Lay Chairmen of the Accra Diocese, also saw members of the Diocesan Lay Movement Council as well as some clergy in attendance.
Oshiyie Society has been earmarked as the next point of focus in 2025.
