"I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all."
The verse highlights that life's outcomes are not always determined by our abilities, intelligence, or efforts. Instead, time, season and chance plays a significant role.
The verse lists several areas where we might expect success to be guaranteed, but it emphasizes that this is not the case. Even the swift, strong, wise, brilliant, and learned are not immune to the unpredictability of life.
The verse encourages us to approach life with humility, recognizing that our abilities and efforts are not the only factors at play. We must learn to trust in God's sovereignty and providence, even when life doesn't go as planned.
Given the unpredictability of life, the verse implies that we should make the most of every opportunity, using our gifts, talents, and abilities to the best of our abilities, while trusting in God's plan.
In essence, Ecclesiastes 9:11 reminds us that life is full of uncertainties and that we should approach it with humility, trust, and a willingness to make the most of every opportunity. Many are still remaining where they are because they refused to enter into their times, seasons and chances.
