🇬🇭🕌 Ghana National Mosque, A Symbol of Faith, Unity, and Progress
The Ghana National Mosque at Kanda, Accra, is one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in West Africa. Built at an estimated cost of $10 million, the project was made possible through the generous support of the Turkish Hudai Foundation and the Government of Türkiye.
Designed after the famous Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the mosque has a capacity of about 15,000 worshippers. Beyond being a place of worship, it also serves the community with a library, research centre, senior high school, clinic, conference centre, auditorium, administration block, and an official residence for the National Chief Imam.
The land for the mosque was handed over in 1995 by former President Jerry John Rawlings to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, as compensation for a mosque that was demolished during the construction of Rawlings Park in Accra.
Although construction began years ago, the project was delayed due to funding challenges. Through the determination of the Ghanaian Muslim community, the leadership of Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and the support of the Turkish Hudai Foundation, the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Türkiye, Human Development International (HUDAI), and the Ghana Friendship and Solidarity Association (GANADER), the dream finally became a reality.
Today, the Ghana National Mosque stands as a lasting symbol of faith, education, peace, and the strong friendship between Ghana and Türkiye.
May Allah (SWT) abundantly reward the generous donors, the Hudai Foundation, the Government of Türkiye, and every individual, organization, and worker who contributed to the construction of the Ghana National Mosque.
