VISITATION BY LOCAL GOVERNMENT, CHIEFTAINCY AND RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS MINISTER HON. AHMED IBRAHIM TO AYAWASO EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The visit by the Local Government Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, to the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly on Thursday, 10th June 2026, formed part of an ongoing nationwide assessment exercise. The exercise aims to evaluate projects undertaken by various assemblies and promote accountability in local governance.
The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister, the Chief Director, and other technical officials.

In his address, the Minister emphasized that the meeting was intended to assess the performance of Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). He noted that the MMDCEs had been in office for a year, making it the right time to evaluate their performance, with a strong focus on transparency and accountability rather than intimidation.

He commended the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, for being one of the best-performing MCEs.

The Minister charged the Assembly to ensure that funds allocated for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are disbursed quarterly and not left sitting in the Assembly’s accounts.

He also encouraged the MCE to fast-track, start and ensure the completion of the 24-hour economy market within one year. The market is designed to create employment opportunities for residents within the municipality and to boost local businesses.

The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Baba Jamal, assured that the 24-hour economy market would be built. However, due to limited land availability in Nima and the constituency at large, the design has been revised to include an underground car park. This will help maximize the use of the available land.

NGO LET LOVE LEAD HOLDS FOURTH SANITATION DAY EDITION AT AYAWASO EAST

The non-governmental organisation, Let Love Lead, on Saturday, 6th June 2026, held the fourth edition of its annual sanitation drive.honouring survivors of the devastating June 3, 2015 flood and fire disaster that claimed over 150 lives in Accra

Despite early morning rains, a large turnout of participants including the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Baba Jamal, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso East, Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso North, Hon. Haruna Mohammed Awal, Assembly Members, Chiefs, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and residents turned up to clean parts of Nima Market, Mamobi, the Paloma route, and their environs.

Beyond the cleanup, the NGO presented groceries, food items and an undisclosed sum of money to survivors of the tragic disaster that occurred 11 years ago following a heavy downpour.

The volunteers swept streets, desilted choked drains, and gathered refuse that had been recklessly thrown into waterways.

During the exercise, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Baba Jamal, stressed that sanitation challenges transcend political boundaries.
“Sanitation issues are bigger than just one parliamentarian. It is for all of us to come together and get our main Nima drain well organised. Then we can advise people not to throw cabbage into the drain,” he stated.
He urged his constituents to keep their communities clean at all times and to remain mindful of the environmental hazards of indiscriminate refuse disposal. He also called on fellow Members of Parliament to ensure their constituencies are kept clean.
