VISITATION BY LOCAL GOVERNMENT, CHIEFTAINCY AND RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS MINISTER HON. AHMED IBRAHIM TO AYAWASO EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY
The visit by the Local Government Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, to the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly on Thursday, 10th June 2026, formed part of an ongoing nationwide assessment exercise. The exercise aims to evaluate projects undertaken by various assemblies and promote accountability in local governance.
The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister, the Chief Director, and other technical officials.
In his address, the Minister emphasized that the meeting was intended to assess the performance of Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). He noted that the MMDCEs had been in office for a year, making it the right time to evaluate their performance, with a strong focus on transparency and accountability rather than intimidation.
He commended the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, for being one of the best-performing MCEs.
The Minister charged the Assembly to ensure that funds allocated for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are disbursed quarterly and not left sitting in the Assembly’s accounts.
He also encouraged the MCE to fast-track, start and ensure the completion of the 24-hour economy market within one year. The market is designed to create employment opportunities for residents within the municipality and to boost local businesses.
The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Baba Jamal, assured that the 24-hour economy market would be built. However, due to limited land availability in Nima and the constituency at large, the design has been revised to include an underground car park. This will help maximize the use of the available land.
