In this excerpt Pastor Obed explains the Judaism concept of Eternal life, vis-a-vis the Christian perspective.
There were three major sects in Judaism: The Saducees, the Pharisees and the Essenes. Jesus himself as a Judaist belonged to the sect of the Essenes. The Saducees believed that there was no life here after, and that every reward or punishment a man deserved was gotten right here in this life on earth. They believed that the reward God gave for a good life lived was a wife, they derived pleasure in living according to the dictates of the Torah. The Pharisees on the other hand believed that, there was life hereafter, [the resurrection to inherit a body] and whatever blessings a man received from the Lord, he had to give account of it when he died. The Essenes believed in Immortality and they believed that, life was upside down, and that a man had to give up all the pleasures of this present life to gain an immortal body with benefits of all the pleasures of life he gave up here. Jesus then moved the concept further saying that, whatever a man did or forsook was supposed to be for the sake of the kingdom of God, so that he could receive eternal life.
