DON'T NEGLECT YOUR SOUL

“Blessed is the man who reveres God, but the man who doesn’t care is headed for serious trouble.” (Proverbs 28:14 TLB)

All Christians believe in the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom He has sent (John 17:3 et al.) but many Christians have little time for God. They are too busy with everyday affairs to be taken up with Bible reading, prayer, and being thoughtful to their fellowmen. Many of them have lost the spirit of a zealous discipleship. If you ask them if they are Christians, they would probably answer, “I think so,” or, “I hope so.” They may go to church at Easter and Christmas and on other special occasions, but otherwise they have little time for God. They have crowded God out of their lives.

The Bible warns against neglect of our soul. It is possible to harden your heart and shrivel your soul, until you lose your appetite for the things of God. This hunger, then, that you should have is a desire to be always right with God. It is a consciousness that all searching for peace of heart, except in Him, is in vain.

WIN GOD'S WAY

Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. (Psalm 25:4 NIV)

Because of how difficult things have become in this world, many people have their way to success. Most of us are happy when we get what we want. That’s human nature. But when we walk with God as we should, other things become more important than seeing our desires fulfilled. Things like seeking God’s desires for our lives, hearing His voice as we make decisions, and being obedient to His leading in every situation.

In the book of 1 Samuel Chapter 15, the Word of God says God sent Samuel the prophet to tell Saul the King of Israel to attack the Amalekites and let them pay for what they did to the Israelites when they were returning from Egypt to the promised Land. As a result, God instructed Saul to destroy the Amalekites and all their possessions and have pity on none; men, women, children and even their babies. He asked Saul to slaughter their cattle, sheep, camels and donkeys. But when King Saul attacked them, the bible says He killed everyone except King Agag, and he also spared the best sheep and cattle. He didn't destroy them because they were valuable and pleasant to be used as sacrificial lambs to God.

Because of what Saul did, the bible says He was rejected! “The Lord told Samuel, “Saul has stopped obeying me, and I'm sorry that I made him King.” ( 1 Samuel 15:10-11). Saul did it his own way and not God's way.

Beloved, the only way to win in life is to win God’s way. Then, even if you don’t get what you want, you have the great satisfaction of knowing you have obeyed God's voice and that outlasts the satisfaction that comes with any earthly possession or achievement.

Always win, but win God's way!

THE ETERNAL FACT

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them. (John 3: 36 NIV)

The bible says emphatically in Mark 1:1 that “The beginning of the good news is Jesus Christ and He is the Son of God” Therefore we know that Jesus Christ is the Son John 3:36 talks about.

I have encountered many individuals who still do not understand the uniqueness of being a believer. Therefore currently on our social platforms and broadcast media, Christianity is being compared with other religions as never before. Some so-called Christian leaders even advocate the working out of a system of morals, ethics, and religion that would bring all the religions of the world together. But unfortunately it cannot be done. It will not be possible. Jesus Christ is unique. He is light. Why insist on the uniqueness of Christ? What did Christ bring into the world that had not appeared before?

The answer is that Jesus Christ is the supreme manifestation of God. “God is Jesus Christ, the Word that became flesh (Man) and dwelled among men. He came and reconciled the world unto Himself” (2 Cor 5:19). And He left us with these words saying; “Whoever believes in the Son (Jesus Christ) and receives the messages preached about Him has eternal life, what is this eternal life “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. (Jn 11: 25 -26) that is eternal life but whoever rejects the Son (Jesus Christ) and the messages preached about Him will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them.

This is the eternal fact of our Christian faith. What would you do? Accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior today and be baptised and you shall have eternal life.

PRAYER STARTER: Heavenly Father, I affirm and confess Jesus Christ the Son of God as my Lord and Savior today. Come into my life and do me good. I receive eternal life, I have it and I live it in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

THE POWER TO DO GOOD

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. (Acts 10:38 NIV)

The solution to a problem is not worrying, murmuring and complaining. Problems should not stop you from being kind and doing good. We are to continue doing the good things we know to do irrespective of the situation, circumstances and challenges. For example, if you have commitments, be sure to keep them no matter what. Quite often when people are encountering personal problems, they withdraw from normal life and spend all their time worrying and trying to solve the problem. All this unproductive activity prevents them from doing what they should be doing, which is “doing good.”

Psalm 37:3 says that we should trust in the Lord and do good, and we will feed on His faithfulness. The faithfulness of God is something we can all be thankful for! I have discovered that if I continue my study of God’s Word, continue praying, keep my commitments and help as many people as I can to know Christ, I experience a breakthrough much faster. Helping others while we are hurt ourselves is actually a very powerful thing to do. And it takes the one who has received the power and the anointing from the Holy Spirit to do that.

PRAYER STARTER: Heavenly Father, I thank You today, that I am not subject to my problems. When I am going through something, I can respond by helping others around me. I am grateful that with Your help, I can do good to others; I can make a difference in this world. I receive power and the anointing from the Holy Spirit to do good in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

THE MIND OF CHRIST

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. (1 Corinthians 16: 13 NIV)

Life will not be automatically easy for you because you are a Christian. Until the day of Christ, Christendom is in a battle. This is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers of darkness and principalities. But it's not our fight because Jesus has conquered them all. In His victory we have our victory.

But why do we still fail? Most of the failures we encounter in our lives are self-inflicted. Although we are more than conquerors, we lack knowledge of the Word and how we will assume our position as victors and not victims. We allow over-exertion, unjustified worry, fear, prejudice, hatred, envy, stress, anxiety, depression and many others to limit our God to function effectively in our lives.

But we know that “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.” (2 Peter 1: 3) So therefore be on your guard, be alert and of sober mind. Meditate on the Word (Joshua 1:8) Because the enemy, the devil walks around like a roaring lion looking for someone to destroy.(1 Peter 5: 8); stand firm in the faith, don't give up and don't surrender, be courageous; be strong for this is the Mind of Christ.

PRAYER STARTER: Heavenly Father, I offer myself up to You today, delight me in Your presence and fulfill Your good pleasure in my life, I declare I am sober, courageous, strong and firm in You through Jesus Christ our Lord

MAKE A BETTER CHOICE

She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. (Luke 10: 39 NIV)

You will not enjoy the present moment and the gifts it contains if you don’t have a balanced attitude towards work. When you read Luke 10:38 – 42 the Bible tells the story of Jesus’ visit to the home of two sisters, Mary and Martha. The Bible says Martha was overly occupied and too busy working herself out ( Luke 10:40). But Mary sat down at Jesus’ feet and listened to the Word of God!.

I know many of us today will find it difficult to choose the Gospel or the great commission over our work or business or go to church and listen to the Word of God when there's a business meeting or an appointment which will bring us money and other big opportunities. “We are too depressed, stressed, anxious and upset about many things, but few things are needed or indeed only one is important. (Luke 10:41 - 42)

Jesus said Mary made the better choice. Jesus did not tell Martha not to work, but He didn't want her to be frustrated or have a bad attitude while she worked. Jesus wants us to work, in fact He wants believers to be diligent towards work, but He also wants us to be wise enough to realize when we should stop work and listen or hear the Word of God. Remember hard work doesn't bless us but God. When hard work blesses someone, it comes with sorrows (sicknesses, diseases, frustration, and other problems) but the blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it. (Proverbs 10: 22)

PRAYER STARTER: Father God, help me to stay in balance with work and the great commission. Help me to be diligent at work but not forget church and evangelism. Help me to make better choices in life in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

TEAR DOWN YOUR WALLS WITH FAITH

But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,' declares the Lord, 'because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.' (Jeremiah 30: 17 NIV)

To avoid pain, some people build walls around themselves so they will not get hurt, but that is pointless. With my little experience in life, God has shown me that it is impossible to live in this world and not get hurt. People are not perfect; therefore, they will hurt and disappoint us, just as we hurt and disappoint others also.

I have wonderful friends and relatives, but occasionally we hurt ourselves. But because of our painful backgrounds, we often put up walls to protect ourselves. Walls to prevent others from getting closer to us. After all, we think, no one can hurt us if we don't let them get close to us. However, if we wall others out, we also wall ourselves in. But God wants to be our protector, but He cannot do that if we are busy trying to protect ourselves.

He has not promised that we will never get hurt, but He has promised to heal us if we come to Him rather than trying to take care of everything ourselves. If you have built walls around yourself out of fear, tear them down in faith.

Come to Jesus with each old wound and receive His healing grace and restoration. When someone hurts you, take that new wound to Jesus. Do not let it fester. Take it to the Lord for God will restore health to you, and your wounds will heal, you will no longer be called an outcast.

For with the help of the Lord, you can survive hurt and disappointment and you will be complete in Him.

PRAYER STARTER: Father God, You have created me to have good relationships. Help me to step out in freedom. Please heal me of any wounds that are holding me back in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

WHO IS YOUR MASTER?

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6: 24)

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus addressed the five(5) keys to a successful life for believers. He taught His disciples concerning giving, prayer, fasting, treasures and worries. In order not to divert from today's message, I will urge you to read the whole chapter 6 of Matthew as I help you demystify the 24th verse.

Beloved, it is imperative to know that money has become a pertinent issue to many countries, businesses, organizations and individuals today. It has ended many dreams, closed down many churches and has affected many souls. It has caused many to kill and destroy lives. It's true they say “tell me what you think about money, and I will tell you what you think about God”. For they are closely related. A man’s heart is closer to his wallet than anything else. It is an indisputable fact that for the past few years many people have spent ten times as much on luxuries and non-essentials as they have for charitable and religious purposes, which is bad!.

While the Bible warns us against greed and selfishness, it encourages frugality and prudent spending. Even Jesus said to His disciples after He fed the multitude, “Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.” Although He has the power to create, He Himself lived frugally and not extravagantly. John Wesley had a threefold philosophy about money. He said, “Make all the money you can; keep all you can; but give all you can.” Don't let money separate you from God, your family and the great commission.

Who is your Master? Whom do you serve? God or Money? The Lord gives us understanding.

PRAYER STARTER: Father God, give me a generous heart so that others may know Your love and compassion through me. Help me to make money and not to love money having Your Word on my mind and at heart in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

WE ARE LIKE JESUS!

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. (1 John 4: 17 NIV)

In scientific study, a child is formed from the genes of the parents. Inside that gene are the traits or the characters that make up the whole physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of the child. That's why it is said that “If a child is not like the mother, he/she is like the father”. But today, our verse has declared that, “In this world, we are not like anyone; not our parents or siblings and relatives but we are like Jesus. .

There are a lot you can do if you are like Jesus. It means, you have His character and ability that's why you shouldn't be afraid of God. If you are like Jesus and Jesus is like God then that is simple mathematics. Give God reverence which means a respectful awe, but He does not want us to lack confidence when we face Him. So the Bible tells us to come "fearlessly and confidently and boldly" to the throne of grace and make our requests known ( Hebrews 4:16 ).

We cannot operate in boldness and fear at the same time. We may "feel" fear, but we must not give in to it; approach God with confidence. We are like Jesus and the most dangerous thing that can ever happen to you is to miss your identity.

If you keep associating with your family, always saying you are like your parents and relatives, you will be insecure, you will lack confidence to face life, you will be disappointed and hopeless because there's no confidence in the flesh.

Begin to believe today that from now on you will step out in faith to do all things. Christ is not just in you beloved; You are like Jesus Christ. Don't draw back in fear and timidity, but go all the way through and you will end up successful.

PRAYER STARTER: Father God, I pray, deliver me from insecurity and lack of confidence. Help me to be bold and courageous, knowing that I am like Jesus in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

ASK FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:13 NIV)

The human race has been a demonstration of power and authority. The world is full of individuals seeking power and authority in one form or another, even in the Body of Christ. But I believe that we believers are able to make things happen according to the power that is at work in us; the ability to create, make and unmake, kill and bring to life is indwelt in a believer. Jesus said in John 14: 12 that greater works than what He did will we do if we believe.

But to realize these potentials and do the unthinkable, the promise of Jesus in Acts 1:8 needs to be taken seriously: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you." Many Christians haven't received the Holy Spirit because they have not understood the fact that He is received through faith. Some are waiting to see some feeling, emotional experience, or special anointing before they would believe they have the Holy Spirit. The early church received and functioned in power! and to have that power, we need to tap into the source; The Holy Spirit. If we want "to know Christ and the power of His resurrection" (Phi. 3:10) see what God can and will do in this month and make a difference for God to reach a dying world, then we need the Holy Spirit.

Many of our prayers are not answered the way we want. But God always wants to give His Spirit to those who ask Him (Lk 11:13 ). It is so because all that we need is in the Holy Spirit. Psalm 104:30 says “Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.” The fullness of Christ is in the Holy Spirit. He is a person, if you have fellowship with Him, your life, your education, business, marital life and ministry will be renewed and never remain the same. You need the Holy Spirit, It will save you much.

PRAYER STARTER: Father God, I thank You for Your promise to give me the Holy Spirit when I ask. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me and use me. Grant me wisdom, grace, and power in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

SECURED IN CHRIST

May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love. (Ephesians 3:17 AMPC)

When something controls you, you are said to be addicted or possessed. So an addiction is something you cannot do without or something you do to alleviate pain or pressure. It is what people run to when they are hurting or feeling lonely.

It comes in many varieties, such as drugs, alcohol, gambling, s*x, shopping, eating, work and, yes, even approval.

Like any addict, insecure people look for a “fix” when they get shaky. They need someone to reaffirm them and assure them everything is alright and they are acceptable. When a person has an addiction, the things they are addicted to are on their mind most of the time. Therefore, if someone is an approval addict, they will have an abnormal concern and an abundance of thoughts about what people think of them.

The good news is that you don't have to suffer insecurity this year 2022; there is a cure for your addiction. The Word of God says we can be secured and confident through Jesus Christ. That means, we are free to be ourselves and become all we can be in Him this year.

PRAYER STARTER: Heavenly Father, teach me what it means to be rooted deep in Your love and to be secured in my relationship with Jesus. You know my weaknesses and everything that seeks to control my life. You know the “fixes” that I have tried. Help me to know my freedom in Christ and make me free indeed in Jesus Christ Mighty Name

BLESSED TO BLESS

"I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all people on earth will be blessed through you." (Genesis 12: 2 -3 NIV)

This month we have reflected on what it means to flourish as a believer. Yet we have barely scratched the main reason why God makes His people flourish. God does not only deliver His people from something to something, but for something. The Exodus was God’s way of bringing Israel back to the land He had promised them, but that deliverance involved much more than a promised land. God told Abraham to leave his homeland and go to a new land where He (GOD) would make Abraham’s family into a great and a blessed nation. The land was Canaan and the people were the Israelites, but what of the blessing?

Was it the mana in the wilderness? (Ex. 16) or the sweetest water they drank at marah? (Ex. 15:23, 24; Num. 33:8) No! It was nothing else but God’s presence with His people is the greatest blessing, but this was never meant to be confined to the nation of Israel alone. The whole point of this geographical shake up was such that Israel would become a blessing to the world. As Israel interacted with its neighbouring peoples and nations, they too were to experience God’s blessings as they worship the God of Israel.

But the Jews thought God’s blessings were reserved for them alone so they became inward looking, kept God’s blessings for themselves and God cost them much. Whenever Israel became more self centered with serving and pleasing themselves, God disciplines and chastises them, allowing them to fall under oppression, which ultimately result in slavery.

We are now the heir of God’s promise to Abraham, a people of many nations blessed to bless others. The greatest of these blessings is the fullness of Christ in us, but we are not to hoard salvation for ourselves. God does not bless us so we can flourish alone but so we can share with those in need. We are blessed to feed the hungry, provide shelter for the needy and introduce the lost to the forgiveness and spiritual life found in Christ.

Ephesians 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” We praise God for flourishing us, and rightly so, but the greatest blessing is found in sharing the blessings Christ has given us with a world that so desperately needs Him.

PRAYER STARTER: Heavenly Father, I thank You for flourishing me both materially and spiritually. May I never hoard what You have given me, but use it for the benefit and blessing of others in Jesus Christ Mighty Name.
