Jesus Christ, Our High Priest

Hebrews 3:1
ESV
Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,

I am also adding this translation.
TPT
And so, dear brothers and sisters, you are now made holy, and each of you is invited to the feast of your heavenly calling. So fasten your thoughts fully onto Jesus, whom we embrace as our Apostle and King-Priest.

Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

These scriptures are at the end of a confession called “7 Places Jesus Shed His Blood” by Liberty Church. Every time I am about to read these scriptures that are in blue letters, I feel tremendous resistance, even a dread. It is like, “Oh, no! Not again!” This is because the devil is afraid that I will get the true message that is presented here, apply it to my life, and wear it like a garment. Apply these scriptures to your life like your life depends on it.

A Humble Spiritual Teacher

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 - New Century Version
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when I came to you, I did not come preaching God’s secret with fancy words or a show of human wisdom. 2 I decided that while I was with you I would forget about everything except Jesus Christ and his death on the cross. 3 So when I came to you, I was weak and fearful and trembling. 4 My teaching and preaching were not with words of human wisdom that persuade people but with proof of the power that the Spirit gives. 5 This was so that your faith would be in God’s power and not in human wisdom.

So, I am not an ordained minister, but I am just a servant or handmaiden of the Lord. I just write to you what I believe the Master wants me to share with you at that time. I do not like to sing or speak in public gatherings, but I love to write things down on paper. I am still sitting at the feet of the Lord as His instructs me about what I should do and how I should respond to situations that present themselves to me in life.

It took a long time, about 30 years, for me to be able to submit to God, and I still have a long way to go before I am qualified to share some things that He has shared with me. I am not very charismatic or persuasive with words, and if I don’t stay with the basic Gospel, the reality that Jesus is the Anointed One, the Liberating King, who was crucified on our behalf (VOICE), then what I may be sharing may be spiritual alchemy or a counterfeit gospel.

The God of the universe came down and lived a sinless life of service to humanity and died the death that paid the full price for our eternal life. So anything that I teach that does not honor the humble King who went about preaching the Good News to the poor, and teaching and healing people, totally dependent on the help of the Holy Spirit, is not the Gospel at all.

Giving the Lord Your Everything

When Christians sing about giving your all to Jesus, I usually get nervous. What does the Lord mean when He says “all?” He means what He says, all your heart, mind, and strength, and all of your energy, and all of your possessions. But my “all” is not necessarily what your “all” is. The Lord requires you to offer a sacrifice to Him, and this may mean sacrificing you favorite TV show or your favorite bad habit, or sacrificing some type of prized possession.

How would you like to be asked to sacrifice your son of promise on a mountain like Abraham was? He was just about to sacrifice his son, but God stopped him and commended him for his absolute obedience to Him. The Lord then knew that Abraham valued his God more than anything he had in this world.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 CEV
4 Listen, Israel! The LORD our God is the only true God!
5 So love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and strength.

Deuteronomy 6:5
CJB
and you are to love ADONAI your God with all your heart, all your being and all your resources.

VOICE
You should love Him, your True God, with all your heart and soul, with every ounce of your strength.

MSG
…love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got!

Having Good Character

Having good character is not popular, nor is it encouraged these days, but would you hire somebody who is know as thief? Would you go into business with somebody who you knew was shifty? Would you want to marry somebody does not treat you with kindness and love?

Not having good character is a lot like having bad breath. You don't want to be in close proximity with somebody who has bad breath. But having good character attracts and keeps the presence of the Lord in your life and it also attracts the right kinds of people into your life.

2 Peter 1: 5-8 TPT
5 So devote yourselves to lavishly supplementing your faith with goodness,
and to goodness add understanding,
6 and to understanding add the strength of self-control,
and to self-control add patient endurance,
and to patient endurance add godliness,
7 and to godliness add mercy toward your brothers and sisters,
and to mercy toward others add unending love.
8 Since these virtues are already planted deep within, and you possess them in abundant supply, they will keep you from being inactive or fruitless in your pursuit of knowing Jesus Christ more intimately.

2 Peter 1:8
NIV
For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

CEV
If you keep growing in this way, it will show that what you know about our Lord Jesus Christ has made your lives useful and meaningful.

What is Faith?

Faith is not an eerie, mystical, substance that only radical Christians say that they have. You use faith every day. One minister said that when you choose to sit in a chair, you have faith or a belief that the chair can support your weight. You better have it. On payday, you use faith when you expect that the check that your employer gives you will be able to be cashed, or that your direct deposit will in your bank and available for you.

Faith is confidence in God that He will allow you to continue to walk with Him, obey Him, and spend the rest of your life serving him, knowing that has rewards for His faithful children in this life and in the life to come.

Faith is being able to share your thoughts and dreams with the Lord, and allowing Him to share His thoughts about you, His faith in you, and His directions to you regarding your future and your God-given destiny.

And yes, faith in God is still needed when you have hold on to Him and to believe that He will meet your needs of food, shelter, financial sustenance, and physical health and healing. These are things that He knows that you have to have to stay alive, to be fruitful, and to be productive here on earth and for you to be able remain on active duty for Him. See Matthew 6:25-33.

The Lord is at least as faithful as that chair that you sit in, that boss who you work for, and the Commander-in-Chief who you serve under if you are in the armed forces.

Think about it.

Where Are You?

I have to admit that I do not always say or think about things that please the Lord. A minister’s wife said that her granddaughter had gotten some chocolates without her permission and when she caught her, the girl said, “Mee Mee, go away!” She used this as an illustration to show us that God is always present. For a long time I thought that God was just not there when I decide to spout off, but when you sin, God does not find out about it when you repent. He already knows about it.

When Adam and Eve sinned, the Lord asked them this question: “Where are you?” Just like with Adam and Eve, the Lord is just trying to locate you, where you are at that moment, and He wants to help you find your way back to Him.

It is a wonderful thing to be clean before the Lord and to have unbroken fellowship with Him. But if you miss the mark, He is right to help you. Just reach for the Lord in faith and your connection and fellowship with Him will be restored.

Psalm 19:14
KJV
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

VOICE
May the words that come out of my mouth and the musings of my heart meet with Your gracious approval, O Eternal, my Rock, O Eternal, my Redeemer.

TLB
May my spoken words and unspoken thoughts be pleasing even to you, O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer.

TPT
So may the words of my mouth, my meditation-thoughts, and every movement of my heart be always pure and pleasing, acceptable before your eyes, my only Redeemer, my Protector-God.

I hope that this is your prayer now and always.
