Σήμερα, Κυριακή 24 Μαΐου 2026, Κυριακή τῶν 318 Ἁγίων Πατέρων τῆς Α΄ Οἰκουμενικῆς Συνόδου ἐν Νικαίᾳ, μὲ τὴ σεπτὴ ἄδεια τοῦ Παναγιωτάτου Μητροπολίτου Θεσσαλονίκης κ. Φιλοθέου, τελέστηκε μὲ ιδιαίτερη κατάνυξη ἡ Θεία Λειτουργία στὸν Προσκυνηματικὸ Ἱερὸ Ναὸ Ἁγίου Δημητρίου Θεσσαλονίκης, προεξάρχοντος τοῦ Σεβασμιωτάτου Μητροπολίτου Ἄκκρας καὶ Ἀκτῆς Ἐλεφαντοστού κ. Δανιήλ.

Ἡ παρουσία τοῦ Σεβασμιωτάτου καὶ ἡ κοινὴ προσευχὴ τῶν πιστῶν γέμισαν τὸν Ναὸ μὲ χαρὰ καὶ πνευματικὴ εὐλογία.

Δόξα τῷ Θεῷ πάντων ἕνεκεν!

Today, Sunday, 24 May 2026, on the Sunday of the 318 Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, with the gracious blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated with profound devotion at the Pilgrimage Church of Saint Demetrios in Thessaloniki, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel of Accra and Côte d’Ivoire.

The presence of His Eminence and the common prayer of the faithful filled the Holy Church with joy and spiritual blessing.

Glory be to God for all things!

Aujourd’hui, dimanche 24 mai 2026, dimanche des 318 Saints Pères du Premier Concile Œcuménique de Nicée, avec la bénédiction de Son Éminence le Métropolite Philothée de Thessalonique, la Divine Liturgie a été célébrée avec une profonde ferveur à l’Église de pèlerinage Saint-Démétrios de Thessalonique, sous la présidence de Son Éminence le Métropolite Daniel d’Accra et de Côte d’Ivoire.

ΟΛΟΚΛΗΡΩΣΗ ΤΟΥ Β΄ ΕΞΑΜΗΝΟΥ ΣΠΟΥΔΩΝ ΤΗΣ ΣΧΟΛΗΣ ΘΕΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΠΟΛΙΤΙΣΜΟΥ ΣΤΗΝ ΓΚΑΝΑ

Με τη χάρη του Θεού και τις πρεσβείες του Αγίου Κυρίλλου του Λουκάρεως, ολοκληρώθηκε με επιτυχία το Β΄ Εξάμηνο Σπουδών της Σχολής Ορθόδοξης Θεολογίας και Πολιτισμού «Άγιος Κύριλλος ο Λούκαρις» της Ιεράς Μητροπόλεως Άκκρας.

Οι δεκαεπτά Γκανέζοι ιεροσπουδαστές παρακολούθησαν καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του εξαμήνου τα μαθήματά τους με επιμέλεια, αφοσίωση και ένθεο ζήλο, προετοιμαζόμενοι πλέον για την εξεταστική περίοδο που ακολουθεί.

Η Σχολή συνεχίζει το σημαντικό μορφωτικό και ιεραποστολικό της έργο, συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στην κατάρτιση των μελλοντικών κληρικών και στελεχών του Πατριαρχείου Αλεξανδρείας και Πάσης Αφρικής στη Δυτική Αφρική, μέσα στο πνεύμα της Ορθόδοξης πίστεως και με σεβασμό προς τις τοπικές αφρικανικές παραδόσεις.

Η Ιερά Μητρόπολη Άκκρας εκφράζει θερμές και εγκάρδιες ευχαριστίες προς το Ιόνιο Πανεπιστήμιο στην Ελλάδα, υπό την ακαδημαϊκή επίβλεψη και στήριξη του οποίου λειτουργεί η Θεολογική και Πολιτιστική Σχολή, καθώς και προς όλους τους Ελλογιμωτάτους καθηγητές και καθηγήτριες από την Ελλάδα, την Γκάνα και τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες Αμερικής, οι οποίοι εθελοντικά, με αυταπάρνηση και πολλή αγάπη, προσφέρουν τις γνώσεις και την εμπειρία τους στους νέους αυτούς ιεροσπουδαστές.

Ευχόμαστε ο Κύριος να ενισχύει πλουσίως το έργο όλων των συντελεστών της Σχολής και να ευλογεί την καρποφόρο αυτή προσπάθεια προς δόξαν Θεού και ενίσχυση της Ορθόδοξης μαρτυρίας στην Αφρική.

COMPLETION OF THE SECOND SEMESTER OF STUDIES
OF THE THEOLOGICAL SCHOOL IN GHANA

By the grace of God and through the intercessions of Saint Cyril Lucaris, the Second Semester of Studies of the School of Orthodox Theology and Culture “Saint Cyril Lucaris” of the Holy Archdiocese of Accra has been successfully completed.

The seventeen Ghanaian seminarians attended their courses throughout the semester with diligence, dedication, and spiritual zeal, and are now preparing for the forthcoming examination period.

The School continues its important educational and missionary work, contributing substantially to the formation of future clergy and church leaders of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa in West Africa, in the spirit of the Orthodox faith and with respect for local African traditions.

The Holy Archdiocese of Accra expresses its warmest and heartfelt gratitude to the Ionian University of Greece, under whose academic supervision and support the Theological School operates, as well as to all the esteemed professors and lecturers from Greece, Ghana and the United States of America, who voluntarily, with self-sacrifice and great love, offer their knowledge and experience to these young seminarians.

We pray that the Lord may abundantly strengthen the work of all those who contribute to the School and bless this fruitful endeavor for the glory of God and the strengthening of the Orthodox witness in Africa.

ACHÈVEMENT DU DEUXIÈME SEMESTRE D’ÉTUDES
DE L’ÉCOLE THÉOLOGIQUE AU GHANA

Par la grâce de Dieu et les intercessions de Saint Cyrille Loukaris, le deuxième semestre d’études de l’École de Théologie Orthodoxe et de Culture « Saint Cyrille Loukaris » de la Sainte Métropole d’Accra s’est achevé avec succès.

Les dix-sept séminaristes ghanéens ont suivi leurs cours tout au long du semestre avec assiduité, dévouement et zèle spirituel, se préparant désormais à la prochaine période d’examens.

L’École poursuit son importante mission éducative et missionnaire, contribuant de manière essentielle à la formation des futurs clercs et responsables ecclésiastiques du Patriarcat d’Alexandrie et de Toute l’Afrique en Afrique de l’Ouest, dans l’esprit de la foi orthodoxe et dans le respect des traditions africaines locales.

La Sainte Métropole d’Accra exprime ses plus sincères et chaleureuses remerciements à l’Université Ionienne de Grèce, sous la supervision académique et le soutien de laquelle fonctionne l’École Théologique, ainsi qu’à tous les éminents professeurs et professeures de Grèce et des États-Unis d’Amérique, qui, bénévolement, avec esprit de sacrifice et beaucoup d’amour, offrent leurs connaissances et leur expérience à ces jeunes séminaristes.

Nous prions afin que le Seigneur fortifie abondamment l’œuvre de tous les collaborateurs de l’École et bénisse cette initiative féconde pour la gloire de Dieu et le renforcement du témoignage orthodoxe en Afrique.

Do we worship "idols"?

One of the oldest accusations against Orthodox Christianity is that we worship idols. Scripture says otherwise. That claim falls apart the moment you read the whole Bible instead of isolated verses.

People often quote passages where God condemns pagan idols while ignoring that God also commanded sacred images for His own worship. He commanded cherubim to be placed over the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25:18–20), cherubim woven into the Temple veil, and sacred images inside Solomon’s Temple. God even commanded the bronze serpent in Numbers 21. It was only destroyed later by King Hezekiah because people began worshipping it as an idol.

That is the biblical distinction many miss: the sin was never art or imagery. The sin was worshipping created things instead of God.

The same is true in Acts 17. St. Paul was condemning pagan idols in Athens, not sacred Christian imagery. And if one continues reading Acts, God even works through material things connected to holy people: the shadow of St. Peter (Acts 5:15) and cloths associated with St. Paul (Acts 19:11–12). Scripture is not anti-material. Christianity is an incarnational faith.

Orthodox Christians do not worship icons. We worship God alone. An icon is a reminder of Christ, His saints, and His work in history. The honor given to an icon passes to the person depicted, not to wood and paint.

And most importantly, God became man. Jesus Christ truly took on human flesh, was seen by human eyes, and walked among us. If Christ truly became visible in the Incarnation, depicting Him is not idolatry—it is a testimony that He truly came in the flesh.
That is why the Historical Church rejected iconoclasm.
Orthodoxy does not worship images.
We worship only the God who became visible for our salvation.

ΒΑΠΤΙΣΕΙΣ ΟΡΘΟΔΟΞΩΝ ΣΤΗΝ ΑΚΤΗ ΕΛΕΦΑΝΤΟΣΤΟΥ

Το Σάββατο 2 Μαΐου 2026, με την ευλογία του Σεβασμιωτάτου Μητροπολίτη Άκκρας, Ακτής Ελεφαντοστού και Μάλι κ. Δανιήλ, τελέστηκαν με κατάνυξη τα Μυστήρια του Αγίου Βαπτίσματος και του Χρίσματος σε τέσσερις κατηχουμένους, στην Ενορία του Αγίου Μαξίμου του Ομολογητή, στο Bingerville της Ακτής Ελεφαντοστού.

Τα ιερά Μυστήρια τέλεσαν ο Ιεροκήρυκας της Ιεράς Μητρόπολης, Πανοσιολογιώτατος Αρχιμανδρίτης κ. Χρυσόστομος Kamwanga, ο Αιδεσιμότατος Πρωτοπρεσβύτερος π. Ιωσήφ Zein Hassan, Γενικός Γραμματέας της Ιεράς Μητρόπολης, καθώς και ο Διάκονος π. Ιάκωβος.

Οι νεοφώτιστοι, μέλη της ίδιας οικογένειας, έλαβαν τα ονόματα Δεββώρα, Μαρία, Ιωάννης και Ηλίας, εντασσόμενοι πλέον στην αγκαλιά της Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας.

Ευχόμαστε ο Κύριος να τους φωτίζει και να τους ενισχύει στην πορεία της ζωής τους, ώστε να παραμείνουν σταθεροί στην πίστη και να αναδειχθούν σε ζωντανά μέλη της Εκκλησίας Του.

BAPTÊMES ORTHODOXES EN CÔTE D’IVOIRE

Le samedi 2 mai 2026, avec la bénédiction de Son Éminence le Métropolite d’Accra, de Côte d’Ivoire et du Mali, Mgr Daniel, les Saints Mystères du Baptême et de la Chrismation ont été célébrés avec recueillement pour quatre catéchumènes, à la paroisse Saint Maxime le Confesseur, à Bingerville, en Côte d’Ivoire.

Les Saints Mystères ont été célébrés par l’Archimandrite Chrysostome Kamwanga, prédicateur de la Sainte Métropole, le Révérend Protopresbytre Père Joseph Zein Hassan, Secrétaire général de la Sainte Métropole, ainsi que le Diacre Père Jacques.

Les nouveaux baptisés, membres de la même famille, ont reçu les noms Débora, Marie-Harielle, Jean-Yaël et Élie Shama, devenant ainsi membres de l’Église orthodoxe.

Nous prions pour que le Seigneur les éclaire et les fortifie dans leur cheminement spirituel, afin qu’ils demeurent fermes dans la foi et portent des fruits spirituels abondants.

ORTHODOX BAPTISMS IN IVORY COAST

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan of Accra, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali Daniel, the Holy Mysteries of Baptism and Chrismation were solemnly celebrated for four catechumens at the Parish of Saint Maximus the Confessor in Bingerville, Ivory Coast.

The Holy Mysteries were officiated by Archimandrite Chrysostomos Kamwanga, Preacher of the Holy Metropolis; Reverend Protopresbyter Fr. Joseph Zein Hassan, Secretary General of the Holy Metropolis; and Deacon Fr. Iakovos.

The newly illumined, members of the same family, received the names Deborah, Maria, John, and Elias, thus becoming members of the Orthodox Church.

We pray that the Lord may enlighten and strengthen them in their spiritual journey, so that they may remain steadfast in the faith and bear abundant spiritual fruit.
