100th Anniversary of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Abor
The St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Abor culminated its 100th anniversary on Saturday, October 26, 2024, with a grand durbar at the church premises. The event was themed "A Century of Spreading the Catholic Faith; Honouring the Past and Embracing the Future with Hope."
The Holy Catholic Church first arrived in Abor in 1923. By the following year, 1924, Abor was declared a secondary mission, with outstations in Tsiame, Atiavi, Wlitey, Agbedrafor, Avenorfeme, Dzogadze, Tadzewu, and Weme. In 1925, the first chapel was built, and a school was established.
Over the past century, the church has undergone remarkable growth and transformation since its humble beginnings. The celebration was dedicated to honouring the heroes and heroines of the church and inspiring the congregation to continue their legacy with love and a commitment to safeguarding it.
The Special Guest of Honour for the occasion was Torgbui Sri III, the Awormefia of Anlo Dukor, who led other Chiefs and Queen Mothers from the Anlo Traditional Area to the celebration.
In attendance were Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, Bishop of Keta-Akatsi Catholic Diocese, and Most Rev. Anthony Kwame Adanuty, Bishop Emeritus of Keta-Akatsi Catholic Diocese. Additionally, numerous priests from the Keta-Akatsi Catholic Diocese, the Comboni Missionaries, and the Society of African Missions were present.
Also in attendance were Reverend Sisters from different congregations and the Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey.
Attached are some scenes from the durbar.
