Carmelite Monastery - Thicket Priory - York Community of Discalced Carmelite nuns at Thicket Priory, near York, UK We welcome people of all faiths and of none for quiet days and meetings. every Sunday.

We are a joyful community of women dedicated to prayer in the service of God's people, in the tradition of St Teresa of Avila. We belong to the Order of Discalced Carmelites and we live at Thicket Priory, near York, in the Parish of St George's and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough. We are enclosed, which means that we do not leave the monastery grounds except for very necessary reasons.

Enclosure enables us to cultivate an atmosphere of silence and prayer, from which everyone can benefit. We play an important role in the life of the local community, building strong ecumenical friendships with the different Christian churches. All are welcome to attend Mass at the monastery which is celebrated at 9.30a.m. The time varies on other days so if you wish to attend please phone us to confirm the time.

Happy Easter to you all.
Just in case anyone is thinking of coming to Sunday Mass at Thicket today and hasn’t seen the notices here or on our website, there is no Easter Sunday morning Mass this year. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
From next Sunday onwards it will be 9.30 as usual.
