Thank you to our wonderful volunteer Abby, who gave a brilliant talk about her research into the lesser-known 19th and 20th century histories of the area around All Saints North Street. This was a very last minute change of plan thanks to the weather and noisy construction work outdoors, so we are very grateful that Abby was able to adapt so quickly! The rain may have stopped the walking element of today's event, but it certainly didn't diminish our enjoyment of it.

Thank you to everyone who came along and shared your stories, memories and questions. We are sorry that we couldn't offer the walking element of the tour but we hope you enjoy completing it on a sunnier day!

Lots on again at All Saints North Street this week!

Today (Wednesday) we have our final York Festival of Ideas event - we are hoping that the rain holds off for our fully-booked exploration of the area around All Saints! This is an event we may run again in the future, so if you missed out but would like to try the walking tour, please let us know.

On Thursday, we have our regular Coffee Morning. Everyone is welcome to join us for a free hot drink and a biscuit, you can sit and chat with us or explore the church - or both!

WALKING TOUR UPDATE

Unfortunately, it seems that the weather may not be on our side for our walking tour tomorrow (10th June). Heavy rain is predicted between 12 - 2pm. Of course, there's time for this to change (fingers crossed!) but if the weather is unpleasant we will give a talk inside the church rather than walking the tour route. We have paper copies of the trail to take away, so this can be completed on a drier day!

The tour is currently fully booked with a waiting list, though we may be able to accomodate walk ups if there are last-minute cancellations.

We had a very busy and very fun Saturday taking part in the !

Our Little Paws Creative Club took inspiration from the church this month. We made stained glass windows from card and tissue paper, looked at the grotesques and angels for ideas to make paper plate masks, and built towers from our magnetic tiles. As always, the children had their own plans and ideas and we always enjoy seeing where their imaginations take them!

In the afternoon we were treated to a fascinating talk on Beds and Bedchambers in Late Medieval England from Dr Hollie Morgan. From beds in conduct literature and romances to some bizarrely-patterned bedspreads, Hollie's talk was informative and entertaining and gave us some interesting insights into why beds are featured in two of our stained glass windows.

A huge thank you to Hollie, to our volunteers Emma-Rose and Morgan who helped the day to run smoothly, and to everyone who came along - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Another busy week at All Saints North Street!

Thursday is the Feast of Corpus Christi, so in addition to our lunchtime service we also welcome you for a Sung Mass, Procession, and Benediction at 7.30pm. Our weekly coffee morning will start as usual at 11am.

On Saturday morning, our regular children's craft session will meet for a Festival of Ideas special celebrating the history of our unique and beautiful building. We do still have a few tickets available - head over to our Eventbrite page to snap them up!

We have Saturday's second Festival of Ideas event at 2pm, with Dr Hollie Morgan giving a fascinating talk about the history of beds and bedchambers in medieval England. What do the beds depicted in our stained glass windows tell us about the people who commissioned them, and about culture in the medieval period more generally? This talk is fully booked, but there may be a few tickets available on the door.

Finally, on Sunday, our regular Sung Mass at 5.30pm will begin with a holy water blessing.

We hope you can join us!

It's Volunteers' Week!

Here at All Saints North Street we are very lucky to have a wonderful team of volunteers who generously give their time to keep the church open, beautiful, and welcoming. Volunteers open and lock the church, arrange our flowers, run our coffee mornings, help at our events and so much more. We are very very grateful to our team and glad to have them as part of our community - thank you, volunteers!
