Faith in the North

The Faith in the North team had the wonderful privilege of speaking at Whalley Abbey about the implementation of 'Pilgrim Places' across churches in the deanery, as well as sharing the various resources available to help support this vision.

It was so encouraging to hear how churches across the Ribble Valley are opening their buildings to welcome visitors and to explore together how any visitor can be a potential pilgrim.

Yesterday it was a joy to be in the Diocese of Chester with Archbishop Stephen, for a day of pilgrimage, prayer and celebration across the city and surrounding communities.

In the morning we met with civic leaders, visited St Peter’s Church at the Cross. We then walked with schoolchildren to Chester Cathedral where Nick and Becky Drake from Songs For School taught their song ‘The Pilgrim Way’.

We then joined church leaders and congregation members at St Andrew’s Tarvin - many who are part of the Pilgrim Places network - to reflect on living as pilgrims in daily life and the role sacred spaces play in nurturing faith.

The day concluded with an evening celebration where we celebrated the saints who have shaped us, and the transformation pilgrimage can bring.

Today the Archbishop of York is visiting the Diocese of Chester for a day of pilgrimage, prayer and celebration!

So far today, the Archbishop has joined a schools’ pilgrimage walk to Chester Cathedral, where Nick and Becky Drake from Songs For School taught the group ‘The Pilgrim Way’.

'The Pilgrim Way' is a specially commissioned song designed to engage children with the theme of pilgrimage, encouraging reflection on life as a shared journey of faith. You can download the free resource pack here 👇
