St Mary's Church, Marton in the Forest

St Mary's Church, Marton in the Forest St Mary's is a peaceful rural church with a heart for Celtic worship. We have a Silver Eco Church Award and are a Fairtrade Place of Worship.

Visitors are always welcome to this historic church and our wildlife-friendly churchyard. The Church of England is committed to actively promoting a safer church. The PCC of St Mary's Church, Marton in the Forest, has adopted the House of Bishops 'Promoting a Safer Church' safeguarding policy statement as an integral part of the life and ministry of the church. The care and protection of children, young people and adults involved in Church activities is the responsibility of everyone who participates in the life of the Church. If you have any concerns about safeguarding (the wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults within our congregation) then please note that there is a SAFEGUARDING tab at the bottom of this webpage which will take you to information from the Church Of England including contact details for appropriate organisations. If you are concerned that someone you know is at risk of, or is being abused, or presents a risk to others, please seek advice from a Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor https://www.churchofengland.org/safeguarding/diocesan-safeguarding-contacts or if necessary report the matter to the Local Authority Social Care Services or if you believe the situation is urgent, contact the Police without delay. Marton Church's safeguarding representative is Caroline Hunt and she can be contacted by email ([email protected]) or phone (01347 878242) or you can speak to our vicar, Rev Steve (01347 810251) or email him at [email protected]

I really have to take my hat off to our incredible team of scythers and rakers! The whole churchyard, hand-scythed and then cleared within 5 days. Amazing. HUGE hearfelt thanks to Sarah, Rome, Andrew and Jean. It's a wonderfully generous gift of your time and energy and we appreciate you all very much!

Bright Sky is a free app for anyone experiencing domestic abuse, or anyone who is worried about a friend, family member, or colleague. Approximately one in four adults in the UK will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. We are told that incidents rise during hot weather and also during major football events. The Bright Sky app was developed to provide practical support and information on how to respond. There's a workplace document and a video on YouTube too.

If you don’t feel safe using this app, you can visit the Bright Sky website or call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline (0808 2000 247). If you, or someone you know, is in immediate danger then please call 999.

The Bright Sky app provides support for those experiencing domestic abuse as well as those concerned about friends and family members

Our next service will be a Celtic Communion on Sunday 5th July at 6pm, celebrated by Rev Steve Whiting. All very welcome.

Our grass car park has been cut back this week (see photo) which will make parking even easier (but slightly less of an adventure!)
Scything of the churchyard is planned for over the summer but for now the grasses and wildflowers are fabulous. A reminder that our seasonal labyrinth is still visible and walkable, thanks to some strategic mowing!

Midday Prayers cancelled today because of the forecast for much higher temperatures! Back next week :)
