Oops. Completely forgot to take any photos of our 12 members who shared Poppleton’s coach (thanks ladies) to the Spring Council Meeting at Scarborough Spa last week. 2 interesting speakers (Dr. Mel Gibson and Julie Peasgood), an update on Federation news and even a contact made for a guest speaker. Plus lunch in the sunshine for some of us while others very much enjoyed the lunch offered by the Spa.

An interesting and inspiring talk last night at our monthly meeting. Jane from Yorkshire Wolds Apple Juice shared their story and green credentials (which are impressive and very wide ranging) and, of course, some delicious samples. I can’t wait to start the bottles I brought home - Apple and Rhubarb (Yorkshire rhubarb of course), Apple and Ginger and Cloudy Apple 🍏 🍎 .

We enjoyed our 8th Birthday Celebrations last night with our AGM and a fun games night. We also thanked our President who stood down after 3 years as President and 8 years on the committee. A tough act to follow - Alison‘s commitment to Dringhouses WI has been outstanding and we are all very grateful for her hard work and leadership.

A busy couple of months - a fun Christmas Party and a January meeting with members sharing an object with a memory generated lots of oohs, aahs and questions. Our 2 book clubs have been reading Lessons In Chemistry and The Midnight Library; Saturday coffee catch up of course included cake and lots of chat; dining club had a fab Sunday lunch and yesterday some of us had a great confidence building Red Cross CPR & First Aid session. Phew! This month we celebrate our 8th birthday and launch the programme of meetings for 26/27. If you’d like to know more or join us to ‘try before you buy’ please contact [email protected]

A fascinating topic presented with humour which fully engaged a large turnout last night. Thank you Val Newark for sharing your experiences as a Forensic Scientist ‘A less glamorous view’.
The Food Bank donations were plentiful as were sign ups for ‘The Chairman’s Lunch’ in February, offers of food for next month’s Christmas Party and votes for the WI Resolutions.

It’s been a very busy few months with some great speakers at our monthly meetings - very much looking forward to this month’s by a forensic scientist. In addition we have a new day time book club now running alongside the evening one; monthly Saturday coffee morning catch ups and various lunch outings; cinema trips including a visit today to see The Choral; Knit and Natter with a range of craft projects being completed including little hats for the tops of innocent smoothies with every hat raising 30p for Age UK. In honour of Remembrance Day how wonderful was this gesture - a tin of chocolates was sent to every York soldier and sailor serving or in hospital at home or overseas (it would be even more wonderful if we knew it included the women - does anyone know if it did?) as displayed at York Mansion House.
