St Stephen's Church - Acomb Parish York Welcome to our page! We are a family-friendly, welcoming and creative Church of England church in the wonderful parish of Acomb, in York.

Our Sunday services are at 8.30am and 10.30am. We’d love to welcome you! We gather together to worship on Sundays at St Stephen’s at 8.30am and 10.30am and on Thursdays in our parish hall at 10am. The 8.30 is an hour-long, reflective service of Holy Communion with traditional, organ-led hymns, an engaging sermon and soul-strirring prayers and liturgy. Delicious refreshments are served afterwards.

The 10.30 is an informal, family-friendly service with contemporary, band-led worship music, fun and family time, a lively sermon, thoughtful prayers and engaging activities for kids and young people in ‘The Oasis’ rooms. Thursday Communion is a friendly, welcoming service of Holy Communion with traditional hymns, a thought-provoking sermon and prayers. On the first Thursday of the month it is led by our Mother’s Union team. The community love to stay around afterwards for coffee, cake and company. Our modern and spacious church hall rooms are available to hire for all manner of events and activities. Get in touch for more info. Bus No. 4 stop at Acomb Green for St Stephen's.

We’re all set for our Pentecost Sunday services tomorrow. Come at 8.30am if you like things a bit more reflective and traditional. Come at 10.30am if you like things a bit more lively and contemporary. It’s going to be a scorcher so we’ll enjoy the refreshments outside in the sun. See you there! 🔥❤️🙌

THIS WEEK at our Oasis CREATE Group we have been thinking about the people who were alive during the building of St Stephen’s Church in the 1830s and who are buried in our churchyard. We all dressed in costume to unlock the hidden histories of the churchyard, experience school and church life and play games from the period. Here are a few snapshots of what went on, edited to look like they were taken at the time, including some very serious portraits!! 🗝️📜🪶🎩

A really exciting day for us today as six lovely people from our community affirm their Christian faith and get Confirmed at a special service at 4pm. There will be refreshments served afterwards and an after-party at The Crooked Tap - Acomb. Our usual services are still happening at 8.30am and 10.30am. All welcome! 🙏🏻

⛪✨ Hidden Histories of 1830s: Secrets of St Stephen's Churchyard ✨⛪
Starting TODAY, come and enjoy our self-guided churchyard trail to meet 12 remarkable people who were alive when St Stephen's was built. Hidden Histories is a week-long trail concluding with a fascinating talk at 4pm on Sunday 17th May about these 12 people and Acomb in the 1830s. Grab a leaflet and map from the Lychgate entrance on York Road to explore the trail in your own time! The church will be open on Tuesday morning and Saturday morning.

St Stephen’s is now open to explore on Tuesday mornings from 9am-11am! There is an optional prayer time at 9.30am followed by coffee and biscuits. We had a lovely little gathering in the sun this morning. All welcome. 🙏🏻🙂
