We had a wonderful time at Messy Science on Thursday! It was all about Jesus meeting a widow in the temple. Rich people were giving lots of money, but the widow gave just 2 mites - all she had.

So, throwing coins into bowls made of different materials and measuring the sound in decibels, helped us to remember what the widow did. Adding rocks or coins to things that were nearly full of water, showed us how a small thing can make a big difference - causing the water to overflow. Various materials had water added to them - cous cous, cat litter, tissue, a nappy - to think about how something small can get bigger and do a really important job soaking up water. Lastly sponge boats held the coins that we added, reminding us that we too can hold on to our money, gifts or talents, rather than giving them completely to God (just dropping coins in that go straight to the bottom).

After some actions songs, Michol, Annie and Graeme cooked us a delicious tea of pasta, bean stew, cheese and sweetcorn, followed by cheesecake and squirty cream. Thank you very much!

At the end we thought about how the widow gave everything she had to God. We were challenged to think about how much of our gifts, money and talents we give to God, and asked to consider how He can multiply what we put in His hands.

We had a fabulous time at Sweaty Church before the holidays! It was all about the man who met Jesus at the pool of Bethesda.

It started off with playing North, South, East and West, with actions from the story. Then there were parachute games - reminding us of the sick and blind people who were by the pool, and how Jesus took away their sickness and gave them freedom. Next 2 teams competed, trying to reach the other side of the room, but one person was blindfolded, one couldn’t speak, one couldn’t walk and 2 had their legs tied together. It involved a lot of teamwork as we thought about the people who had been sat around the pool. Following this were relay games - ‘stirring the waters’ as as in the Bible story, cleaning plates - remembering how Jesus healed people’s hearts, picking up mats as in the story, and deciphering a Bible verse that was collected in pieces.

Then after some action songs, Graeme, Judith and Annie served us a delicious tea of sausages, mashed potato and beans, followed by meringues, fruit and squirty cream. Thank you very much!

We were reminded at the end, how Jesus wants to heal us - just as he healed the man at the pool. He wants to forgive all that we have done wrong and make us clean.

Our next session is Messy Church on Thursday 4th June. We hope you can make it!
