Hallo Everyone
It was lovely to have so many people in Church at St John’s on Sunday afternoon, for the Mission Area ‘Farewell to the Erringtons’ service! Thank you to everyone who took the time out of a Sunday afternoon to worship with us and pray for us. It meant a lot to both me and Steve.
Today is Ascension Day, when we remember the risen Lord Jesus promising his followers that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses . . . And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight (Acts 1:8-9). A small number of people made their way to the top of St Giles’ tower at 7.00 am for the traditional Ascension Day Communion service. Conditions were absolutely perfect – there was no threat of anything getting blown away or rained on, and we could see for miles in all directions.
This coming Sunday, there will be the regular Service Station worship at St John’s at 4.00 pm. Sunday also marks the beginning of Christian Aid Week. There will be United Service to mark Christian Aid Week at 6.00 pm at Capel-y-Groes. Please do show your support for Christian Aid, and for the united witness of churches across Wrexham, by going along to this service.
On Sunday 19 May, we will be celebrating Pentecost, and saying goodbye, as that afternoon sees my last service at St John’s. I believe that some food has been organised for us to enjoy together, and that if you’re coming, you’re being asked to bring along ‘something sweet’.
St Giles’ is holding an afternoon tea on Saturday 18 May at 2.00 pm. Admission by ticket only (£10.00).
St Margaret’s is running a Study Group in June, starting on Wednesday 12 June, time and venue TBC. The material will be Speak Life: 321 Course, a course which is designed to help you think about God, the world and yourself through immersive videos and thoughtful illustrations. Suitable both for those who want to discover more about their faith, and for those who are inquiring about faith.
Don’t forget, if you’re putting anything into the waste bin in the Church or the Hall, STOP! We are now required by law to separate waste for recycling as follows: glass; plastic, metal and cartons; paper and card; food waste (although this probably doesn’t apply to our Churches, as it only affects those who produce more than 5 kg of food waste per week). Please bear this in mind when disposing of waste at Church, and ask if you’re not sure what to do.
with best wishes
Sarah
