Hallo Everyone

It was lovely to have so many people in Church at St John’s on Sunday afternoon, for the Mission Area ‘Farewell to the Erringtons’ service! Thank you to everyone who took the time out of a Sunday afternoon to worship with us and pray for us. It meant a lot to both me and Steve.

Today is Ascension Day, when we remember the risen Lord Jesus promising his followers that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses . . . And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight (Acts 1:8-9). A small number of people made their way to the top of St Giles’ tower at 7.00 am for the traditional Ascension Day Communion service. Conditions were absolutely perfect – there was no threat of anything getting blown away or rained on, and we could see for miles in all directions.

This coming Sunday, there will be the regular Service Station worship at St John’s at 4.00 pm. Sunday also marks the beginning of Christian Aid Week. There will be United Service to mark Christian Aid Week at 6.00 pm at Capel-y-Groes. Please do show your support for Christian Aid, and for the united witness of churches across Wrexham, by going along to this service.

On Sunday 19 May, we will be celebrating Pentecost, and saying goodbye, as that afternoon sees my last service at St John’s. I believe that some food has been organised for us to enjoy together, and that if you’re coming, you’re being asked to bring along ‘something sweet’.

St Giles’ is holding an afternoon tea on Saturday 18 May at 2.00 pm. Admission by ticket only (£10.00).

St Margaret’s is running a Study Group in June, starting on Wednesday 12 June, time and venue TBC. The material will be Speak Life: 321 Course, a course which is designed to help you think about God, the world and yourself through immersive videos and thoughtful illustrations. Suitable both for those who want to discover more about their faith, and for those who are inquiring about faith.

Don’t forget, if you’re putting anything into the waste bin in the Church or the Hall, STOP! We are now required by law to separate waste for recycling as follows: glass; plastic, metal and cartons; paper and card; food waste (although this probably doesn’t apply to our Churches, as it only affects those who produce more than 5 kg of food waste per week). Please bear this in mind when disposing of waste at Church, and ask if you’re not sure what to do.

with best wishes

Hallo Everyone

I’m hoping to see many of you on Sunday at the Mission Area service at St John’s at 4.00 pm. As you know, it won’t be my final service in Wrexham, but it is an opportunity for people from across the Mission Area to say ‘goodbye’ to me. Jonathan will be leading our worship.

Have you ever fancied climbing up to the top of the tower at St Giles’? This Saturday, 4 May, is your opportunity! Starting at 11.00 am and 12 noon, and taking about an hour, the tour takes in the ringing room and a view of the bells, before reaching the top of the tower, with views as far as the Berwyn Hills, Mersey Estuary and Cheshire Plain. You will need to book in advance with Wrexham Visitor Information Centre ([email protected] or 01978 292015); cost £5.00. The tower tours will be held on the first Saturday of each month from May to September.

Sunday 12 May is the beginning of Christian Aid Week. There will be United Service to mark Christian Aid Week at 6.00 pm at Capel-y-Groes. Please do show your support for Christian Aid, and for the united witness of churches across Wrexham, by going along to this service.

Hallo Everyone

Apologies that this update is rather late, and that last week’s just didn’t happen.

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the last service at St James’ as good as it could be. It will feel like a different world tomorrow! You will have seen, either on email or the St James’ page, details of services in the other Anglican churches in Wrexham, and I know that some members of St James’ are planning to come to the service at St John’s. I’m looking forward to seeing you there.

St John’s ‘Service Station’ starts at 4.00 pm. Refreshments will be served as you arrive. Please sit at the tables on the right hand side of church, from which you can see the screen. We will be celebrating Communion tomorrow afternoon.

For those who are wondering, the photos which were shown at St James’ last Sunday, along with some more which were taken at the service, ‘officially’ by Nick Roe and ‘unofficially’ by others, have been sent to Karen Maurice, the Diocesan Communications Officer. Karen made the video which we saw in Church last Sunday, and she’s going to edit some of the photos into it. She’s also helping us to put together an online ‘memory board’. I will let you know how to access these once they’re ready.

Next Sunday, the 4.00 pm service at St John’s will be a Mission Area farewell service for me. I hope to see lots of you there, even though it won’t be my final service in Wrexham.

Hallo Everyone

Our services this Sunday will be at the regular times of 11.00 am at St James’ and 4.00 pm at St John’s. At St James’, Neil will be leading a ‘Songs of Praise’ service; at St John’s, Jonathan will be leading.

On Sunday week, 21 April, we will be holding the last service at St James’. Don’t forget, if there are any particular hymns or songs you’d like to see included, to send me details ASAP. If you’re planning to stay for lunch after the service, please bring some sweet food – cakes/desserts. There will be savoury food provided. If you’re reading this on email, you should have received a copy of some notes from a meeting last week, which include further details about plans for Sunday week.

St Giles’ is hosting The Mayor’s Charity Concert this Friday evening at 7.00 pm. Details and contact numbers for tickets are here: https://www.rmvc.co.uk/concert-dates/the-mayor-s-charity-concert
