The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today the Church celebrates with great joy the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, when at the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken body and soul into the glory of Heaven.

This beautiful feast is not only about Mary; it points towards the hope that belongs to each one of us. The Assumption reminds us that our earthly lives are a journey towards God and that suffering, sorrow and even death will never have the final word.

Mary knew the joys and struggles of ordinary human life. She knew uncertainty, worry and profound sorrow, yet through it all she continued to trust in God’s promise.

Today, especially, we remember those who are sick and approaching the end of their earthly lives, those who lovingly accompany them, and all who mourn someone they love. May Mary’s Assumption strengthen our hope in the resurrection and the promise of eternal life.

Let us pray:
Blessed Mary, Mother of God, walk beside us in times of joy and sorrow. Help us to trust in your Son and lead us, at the end of our earthly journey, safely home to Him. Amen.

Our Lady assumed into Heaven, pray for us.

Last Sunday, the clergy of the Rhyl Deanery gathered for their deanery meeting and to offer Canon Terry Carr their warmest good wishes as he prepares for his retirement at the end of July.
We thank Canon Terry for his many years of faithful priestly ministry and wish him every blessing, good health, and happiness in this new chapter of his life.

You’re warmly invited to join us this Thursday as Bishop Peter celebrates the annual Llangollen International Eisteddfod Mass at Holy Cross Church, Llangollen, beginning at 5.00pm.

This much-loved annual celebration brings together faith, music and the international spirit of the Eisteddfod. We are delighted to welcome a visiting choir from overseas, who will lead the music during the Mass, making it a truly special occasion.

Bishop Peter warmly invites everyone to attend and join us in celebrating this beautiful tradition. All are very welcome.

As a Diocese, we give thanks to God for his faithful ministry, compassionate leadership, and dedicated service to the people of God. May the Lord continue to bless him with good health, wisdom, strength, and every grace as he shepherds our diocesan family.
